About

Adolescents and young adults often endure complicated transitions and unexpected challenges while learning to navigate the world. I enjoy working with people during dynamic times of life like middle school, high school, and college, and I also specialize in work with creative individuals. Clients are warmly accepted in my practice for who they are today. My goal is to provide a stable environment that is both supportive and challenging. Together, we explore what that person values, where they want to go, what they would like to change, and who they want to become.
Some of the most common issues I treat include anxiety, ADHD, self-harm, social concerns, academic concerns, family distress, personal identity, depression, and grief. Clients often set goals around self-esteem, time management, family dynamics, and communication skills. I see clients individually and/or in family sessions, and I facilitate groups for teens.
I view therapy as an active, collaborative process that can lead to healing and growth. My style infuses humor, metaphorical language, and experiential processes. Sometimes therapy is even fun! I want to help young people find new ways of approaching - and healthier ways of coping with - problems during times of life that are naturally full of ups and downs.

Sarah Souder Johnson's Groups

Teen Calm anxiety group (ages 12-18)

Teen Calm is a group for adolescents that explores various types of anxiety, the way we feel it in our bodies, and the brain science behind it. Group members will build skills to decrease the overall impact of the stress and anxiety they experience and learn how to prevent it from taking over. Sarah will use a combination of mindfulness, breathing exercises, movement, writing, biofeedback, exposure, and cognitive behavioral techniques to bring about calm and build confidence. This 6-week group is offered quarterly; new group starts Fall 2022. Screening required. Sliding fee available.
