I am an outpatient therapist in Charlotte, NC specializing in adoption and the treatment of developmental trauma. I am keenly versed in the psychological issues and unique social/emotional challenges these children present. Adoptive families are often frustrated and sometimes frightened by their children's behaviors. Most of the children I treat spent time in an orphanage or in the foster care system. A few were adopted at birth.They learned early in life not to rely on adults as a result of early deprivation. Parenting is a challenge! Psychoeducation and support are the essential tools to create healthy families.
I am trained in the Othmer method of neurofeedback. This modality is the recommended treatment of choice per Dr. Bessel van der Kolk for developmental trauma. It is also very effective with ADHD (American Academy of Pediatrics) as well as anxiety, PTSD and addictions, anxiety, sleep, migraines and many other issues. It is a safe and effective treatment.
Many adults experience stress from unresolved childhood issues interfering with their personal relationships. Couples and individuals can also benefit from attachment focused work and neurofeedback. Many of the adoptive parents I work with have been able to identify the specific triggers provoked by their child(ren) and resolve negative patterns of communicating.
