I heard many years ago a professor make this foundational statement of truth about counseling–human beings are wounded in relationship, so it is in relationship that we are healed. Through the intervening years, in practice as well as in life, I have seen this truth play out again and again–it is relationship, fundamentally within ourselves, that serves as the agent of healing, growth, and positive change. As a clinician, it has become a primary focus of my practice to establish and maintain a relationship of compassionate curiosity, caring, and trust within which clients can explore and heal the pain that brings them to therapy.
I am an EMDR therapist and work primarily through its conceptual framework incorporating the wisdom and tools of many other theoretical modalities to help clients heal. These include Attachment Theory, Poly Vagal Theory and somatic therapy practice, Internal Family Systems Theory and practice, Dialectic Behavior Theory and practice, as well as many others.
This means that I am committed to a creative and collaborative relationship that brings to bear the clinical approaches and techniques most relevant to clients' needs at any point in the journey toward mental and emotional health and well-being.
