In my work with children and teenagers, I see behavior as having meaning. Difficult behaviors such as defiance, tantrums, aggression, and isolation are often the youth’s maladaptive attempts at communicating emotions. I see my role as a facilitator of effective communication, collaborating with youth to understand their experiences and identify/verbalize their thoughts and feelings. With a decade of working with kids in a variety of settings, I work primarily from a relational and attachment-based foundation, which utilizes compassion, attunement, and co-regulation to promote wellbeing through enhanced relationships and self-worth.
Through this work, I am able to support parents in understanding the meaning of their child’s behaviors, assist youth in expressing themselves more effectively, and work hand-in-hand with families to promote mutual understanding, empathy, and acceptance. I also have experience working with families on co-parenting and communication in the midst of divorce.
