You DON’T have to be a skilled artist to benefit from art therapy: you just have to be open to exploring life’s challenges through the creative process. I utilize a variety of approaches to meet each client’s unique needs. A session might contain elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, psychoeducation, and/or sensorimotor expressive arts therapy. Sensorimotor expressive arts therapy uses sensory-based methods to assist trauma survivors whose states of hypoactivation (“freeze”, dissociation, depression) or hyperactivation (“fight”, “flight”, anxiety) prevent them from accessing body awareness, emotion, & healing.
As a certified perinatal mental health professional, I know that birthing parents and their partners face a myriad of challenges during pregnancy and the postpartum period, including depression, anxiety, obsessive symptoms, traumatic stress, and perinatal psychosis.
