What matters most in our relationships to ourselves and others often lies beneath the surface. I am the most interested in considering what is held deeply within the mind, sometimes beyond awareness, maybe vaguely, at its corners, or perhaps in repeating dynamics and patterns. I love being a psychotherapist not because it’s easy, but because it’s a practice that opens my mind and heart and sense of being. I’m a thoughtful, imaginative, creative person who’s interested in the dynamics of our interior lives. People I have had the privilege to come to know intimately help me understand their experience of being human - and my own.
I am engaged in advanced training as a Psychoanalytic Candidate with the Washington Baltimore Institute for Psychoanalysis. I am able to work with people in a consistent and sustained way, as often as five days a week. This approach helps us best to observe and consider things up close over time, helping to effect enduring and substantial change.
My patients include people who have suffered trauma related to religion, sexual and gender identities, healthcare, and intimate relationships. Prior to becoming a therapist, I did volunteer work in Appalachia, provided leadership in nonprofit organizations, and then for many years provided supportive care as a hospice chaplain and grief counselor.
