Sandra P Hutton
I have been a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in Georgia for the past 36 years. I enjoy helping people learn new communication skills and gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships. The therapy outcomes I see most often are increased self-esteem, greater intimacy, more hope, more joy, greater life satisfaction. In individual therapy, the people I see most often come in suffering from symptoms of depression and anxiety. Not surprisingly, these same feelings usually motivate people to seek couples therapy. I work with all kinds of couples -- considering marriage, married, engaged, committed life partners, etc.
I make use of Transactional Analysis to help people increase their self-awareness and improve their communication skills. My preference in personality systems work is the Myers-Briggs Personality Test, since it offers a universal, non-pathologizing way to understand normal, healthy variations in dealing with people and the world.
My experience as a workshop leader and public speaker on the subject of humor has sharpened my appreciation of the power of laughter in healing and learning. Couples who can access humor together have a head start on happiness. When to laugh and when to cry? That's worth learning.
