All humans seek happiness and answers to the most personal and vexing questions of self-knowledge, happiness, love, the right way to live, and satisfying, meaningful relationships and work. At the heart of these quests lie enduring philosophical questions. As an APPA-certified Philosophical Counselor, I can help you find means of raising and answering these questions, through conversations and engaged dialogue. Philosophical reflection and study are tools I can share in this process, one I've been engaged in ever since I began the formal study of philosophy, and continued in my teaching, writing, and reflection.
Philosophy is the heart of this therapeutic process. From time immemorial, philosophers have thought about anxiety, grief, and depression, as a way to living a better life. My task is to bring the wisdom of the ages, acquired by individuals like you and me, to bear on our common, and yet deepest, problems, by way of philosophical reflection.
I hope to work with you to inquire deeper into who you are, and may want to become, to helping you resolve, by way of introspection and thoughtfulness and sustained dialog, the 'problems' that seem to stand in your way in being or becoming yourself. My task is not to show you 'the way,' but rather to help you find 'your way.'
