I began my career as a registered nurse. After working in several areas of medical care, I settled into thirteen years as a psychiatric nurse attending to the care of children, adolescents, and adults of all ages. During this time, I returned to graduate school to complete my master of social work degree. Since finishing, I have practiced as a therapist, in a community clinic, and in a private clinic. Two years ago, I opened my own independent practice and continue with that today.
My approach to counseling adults is based in cognitive-behavioral theory, better known as "talk therapy."
Talk therapy is more than talk! A most important aspect of this approach is the power of positive connection between client and therapist-the therapeutic relationship- which offers a unique opportunity, and sets the stage for client-desired changes by the setting of goals and objectives in a timely and time-limited framework.
Significant to making these changes is the processing of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors which facilitates the healing aspect of talk therapy. I find that most clients enter into this naturally and comfortably.
