From the first phone call to the last session I want you to feel heard, seen and safe. Reaching out when you need support is a very vulnerable step. And a brave one. You are worth it and won't be alone during your journey of growth and healing. I work from a compassionate and nonjudgmental place. I look at each person in a holistic way which means I attend to the emotional, mental and physical energy that is brought into each session as well as your own unique life experiences. Through my own experience with therapy I know how processing self-defeating behaviors and beliefs can be truly life-changing. There is always hope.

It may not feel like it right now, but change is possible. Through therapy, you can become aware of the unconscious decisions you are making each day that are unknowingly shaping your life. You may find that the unhelpful decisions all center around patterns meant to keep you safe. Together, we can work on increasing your sense of security and recognizing which patterns are no longer working. I am trained in EMDR, Internal Family Systems Therapy, and Sensorimotor Therapy. These modalities can aid you in going deeper and effectively processing the patterns and traumas that are keeping you stuck.

Are you stuck between, "this isn't working for me" and "I don't know what else to do? No matter how hard you try, your emotions control you. Pushing them down and pretending they’re not there has only worked for so long. You feel it in your body- the tension, the stomach flips, the pressure in your chest. You have a fairly constant simmer of self-critical thoughts that boils over from time to time with the message that you’re unworthy. Your sadness tells you to stay in bed, and you do. Your anxiety tells you to avoid that person, conversation, presentation, event etc, and your shame tells you that you can’t, so you don’t even try.

My approach to therapy consists of creating a strong therapeutic alliance between myself and my client. I believe that the core of therapy works through the rapport built and feeling of safety my clients have in my space. I value building on strengths and I believe my clients are better able to do the hard work of therapy through understanding their strengths. I utilize a trauma informed and multi-cultural lens through my work to help clients process/understand difficult pasts, while also highlighting the importance of how race and ethnicity plays a factor in our views of the world.

I see us each born with a sense of ease, a sense of knowing that we are loved and worthy. Life sometimes challenges us with more than we can manage. We endure events and experiences that feel like cuts and bruises and we have to find ways to navigate threats to our well-being. Sometimes these cuts feel so deep that we’re not able to easily heal and we cringe in pain each time someone, knowingly or not, touches one of our open wounds. The pain can be unbearable and until we mend and heal the source of the suffering, the symptoms may persist in the form of physical, emotional or spiritual pain.

Seeking therapy can be a challenging step, because opening up about intimate issues to a stranger is both terrifying, brave, and can leave you feeling vulnerable. That's why it's important to find somebody with whom you feel comfortable. It is my priority to make you feel at ease, because reaching your goal is more difficult when this is not at the foundation of the therapeutic experience. This approach has enabled me to work with a wide array of teens, adults, couples, and families.

I enjoy working with people who have addictions or anxiety or something else weighing them down, working with them for a relatively short period of time, and watching them become energized and passionate about their lives.
I believe that my clients know themselves better than anyone else. I work to help my clients achieve their goals.
I believe I can best serve people by using what research has shown to be effective.
I do not believe therapy should take a long time; most of my clients graduate within 3-6 months. I work on an time-sensitive basis so some require more sessions.

My name is Rodrigo Franco (LCSW, LAADC) and I have been working as a therapist for the past 11 years. I understand therapy as an opportunity for renewing and empowering ourselves. Thus, an opportunity for personal growth that affects all parties involved. My overall approach is to provide hope and the sense that change (regardless of the magnitude) is possible. I mainly work with adults and older adult clients that might be experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and grief. I also have experience working with mood disorders.

I therefore incorporate an integrative, strength-based approach in my practice. As an immigrant of Indian origin, I can deeply empathize with those who struggle with acculturation stress, sense of identity and belongingness.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
