Welcome to my practice! My name is Laura, and I'm pleased to meet you. I specialize in several areas of human sexuality including medical disorders such as female inorgasmia, betrayal trauma, affair recovery, childhood sexual abuse, healthy sexuality, and consulting with churches and corporations on safe child policies. I will work with you in an understanding and compassionate manner to help transform you into a stronger individual that has survived adversity and triumphed over hurt as well as help you improve your sex life. I also offer several day intensives to shorten the duration of treatment and expedite the healing process.

I have been working with individuals and couples for 20 years. Many of the clients I see suffer from depression, anxiety, work and relationship issues (including communication problems, feeling disconnected, infidelity, and divorce). I help clients find new ways of coping, seeing and thinking, and relating. Although I am knowledgeable and skilled in several therapeutic methods, I don't believe in "one-size-fits-all" therapy. Instead, I adapt my treatment plan to meet the needs, goals, and personality of each client.

I work with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, life changes, and relationship issues. My work focuses on guiding people through battles with self-criticism and doubt toward a place of greater acceptance and peace.

McArthur Counseling center aims to provide personalized treatment for every client. We pride ourselves in being a "full service" agency offering all types of counseling, testing and medication options. Our counselors have a variety of specialties including: anger management, depression, marital problems, anxiety, developmental disorders and substance abuse, just to name a few. Our on staff Psychologist is licensed to administer over 35 different psychological and educational testing instruments. Our on staff Psychiatrist and Nurse Practitioners offer psychiatric evaluations and medication management services with day and evening hours.

I believe strongly in the human potential to grow and adapt to change. I have worked in mental health for over two decades in a variety of settings and am trained as a counseling psychologist and medical intuitive. I work specifically with clients who have experienced trauma, members of the LGBTQ+ community, veterans and service members, other healers, and clients seeking medical intuition services. Some of the healing modalities that I integrate are Reiki, mindful self-compassion, somatic exercises, connection with guides, crystal therapy, past life regression, journeying, and individualized microcurrent frequency (IMF).

We are here to help with relationship problems, family issues, anxiety, stress, grief, trauma, addiction, and other life concerns.

Sometimes therapists are called the "wounded healers" because from their own life experiences they have decided to help people. I am proud to be one of those therapists. I have had a wealth of life experiences and losses and can truly empathize with my clients. I have experience in many areas of Social Work; including housing homeless people, coordinating adoptions, and advocating for pre-adjudicated youth. As a Clinical Therapist, I have worked in Home Based Therapy, Community, Residential, and Addiction. I firmly believe that these varied populations and organizations have enriched my integrative approach to therapy.

I believe that treatment is most helpful when provided in a safe environment that is free of judgments and filled with compassion and respect. I believe the majority of our troubles stem from our upbringing and the relationships we've had in our life, past and present. In order to heal, it is necessary to explore this. This will take time and will be difficult. We will learn coping skills along the way to manage life's ups and downs in a healthy way.

Hope to have more availability soon**I have a warm, collaborative working style that integrates a systemic theoretical orientation (understanding people's lives in the context of biology, relationships, work, and larger social/cultural systems) with highly individualized, evidence-based treatment. I enjoy working with people across the lifespan, from adolescence through older adulthood. I have extensive training/experience in the areas of family therapy (e.g., Functional Family Therapy), parenting, co-parenting through divorce/family disruption, trauma, and developmental challenges through adolescence and emerging adulthood.

I work with a variety of individuals, couples, and families dealing with such problems as anxiety, depression, stress management, and relationship difficulties. One of my special interests is assisting clients with improving their decision-making in important life areas. Recently I published a book on judgment and ways to enhance it. I am also experienced in providing psychological evaluations for assessment of attention deficit disorders, fitness for bariatric surgery, and court-related issues. I look forward to helping others explore strategies to enhance well-being and lead more fulfilling lives.

I have over 25 years of clinical experience and specialize in treating women's issues, such as: post-partum depression, anxiety, grief and loss, relationship and career issues. My experience as a childbirth educator has enhanced my ability to treat the needs of post-partum women as they transition into motherhood. This journey is one that is often met with unexpected emotions and I help women identify these feelings so they can resolves issues that may complicate parenthood. I recognize the impact of pregnancy loss as well, and help my clients process through this very unique kind of grief.

I enjoy working with clients who want to gain insight into their emotions and behaviors. If you are wanting to learn more about your emotions, how your emotions interfere with accomplishing your goals, and how your behaviors impact your relationships, you are my ideal client. I utilize a systemic approach while working with clients and design treatment strategies that are highly effective in the reduction of symptoms. The therapeutic relationship is key to treatment success. My treatment orientation integrates Family Systems, Cognitive Restructuring, Experiential, Reality Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Mindfulness.
