As a clinician born in Trinidad and Tobago, I work with young adults and adults including those who are immigrants, have been through the foster care system, are going through life transitions and experiencing career, relationship and identity challenges. We'll identify triggers; manage or resolve responses and reactions related to PTSD, anxiety, OCD, bipolar disorder, ADHD, depression and more. We'll identify the psychological impact of past and current experiences and relationships on mood, behavior and thought patterns.I affirm BIPOC, AAPI, Latinx, LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent clients.
My clients learn to assert their needs and to manage conflict in relationships; learn how to interpret and regulate emotions and respond appropriately; learn ways to accept and manage distress; improve interpersonal skills; decrease impulsivity related to eating, exercise or shopping; and deepen insight into how the past affects the present.
I use active listening, engaging responses, compassionate questioning, validation strategies and cognitive behavioral interventions to support clients in remaining committed to therapy as they challenge themselves to change well-established behavioral, cognitive and emotional patterns which they find frustrating but have relied on over time.
