I collaborate with my clients to help them find a better understanding of themselves. The process may include exploring how they have arrived at where they find themselves in life; how patterns in their relationships with the important people in their lives have developed and are sustained; how emotions and emotion-laden expectations may limit possibilities; how the therapeutic relationship can provide support, insight, improve coping skills and relationships with others, expand opportunities, improve performance, and increase satisfaction. Licensed in NY and CT, I also hold APIT to practice telepsychology in any PSYPACT state.
I strive to listen to my clients' unique experiences with a nonjudgmental stance and with sensitivity to issues of class, race, culture, gender, and sexual orientation. My research has been in war-related trauma, sexual trauma, and HIV. I have a background in secondary education, and I have worked with adolescents, college students, and adults of all ages.
I work in a flexible, broad-based manner, often layering DBT techniques for affect regulation and interpersonal skills with CBT skills for problem solving over a relational psychodynamic (insight-oriented) approach. I am careful to consider what specifically clients are hoping to achieve and to frequently assess if our work feels productive.
