Our lives are continually evolving and changing. We carry with us tools, strategies, behaviors and ways of coping with the variety of challenges, shifts and changes we experience, feel and encounter. Some of the ways in which we think about ourselves and interpret our experiences support us and work well for us, some did for a specific time and no longer do, and some of these thoughts/behaviors didn’t support us at all, are unkind, and we find ourselves acting against ourselves.

Relationships are a lot of work, and they can be your greatest source of joy. I find that couples today are carrying more than we were ever designed to carry on our own. This is why I feel so passionate about supporting people that want to grow their love together. I believe we are all lifelong learners when it comes to relationships and that marriage and parenthood are designed to keep us humble.

Life can be hard. Sometimes we just need a safe place to vent. Other times we want input from a neutral party to gain a new perspective. As your therapist, I will help you identify what will help you move forward and navigate the difficult times. I am a thoughtful and compassionate listener and will validate your experiences from a place of genuine care. I offer support and insight through constructive yet gentle questioning and suggestions. I excel at empowering individuals who struggle in relationships and may be battling depression, anxiety, perfectionism, and past traumas.

Relationships are inherently complex, and even our most intimate ones can be confusing and painful. It's my job to help you make sense of the complexity. Rather than focusing on fixing something, I put greater emphasis on understanding and processing your conflicting feelings and desires. When we are able to identify and explore conflicting states of mind, we feel less stuck and more free to make choices that reflect what is most authentic to who we are.

I understand that assessment and therapy are very personal and vulnerable processes and I believe you will find me to be straightforward, knowledgeable, and warm. I strive to work collaboratively with adolescent and adult clients and their families to help them develop insight into their difficulties and determine how to make meaningful and lasting changes. Issues that often bring clients to my office include seeking answers or assistance through a psychological assessment, addressing addictive behaviors, the effects of trauma, or navigating a life transition.

I am an advanced clinician in Imago Therapy. When relationships aren't working very well or are on the brink of ending, it really feels bad; like the rug is being pulled out from under you. Often there are solvable reasons for why these things happen. I am motivated by those methods such as Imago therapy and EFT which have worked so well for so many in the past to help couples develop a high degree of safe attachment in their relationships. Something, that once they have learned how to do it, they can take with them because it is portable.

Your trauma, your anxiety, and your fear has taken over your life. You are on edge often times without knowing why. The world feels dangerous and you are afraid. Your inner critic is harsh and unforgiving and it seems like you can never get it right. You are struggling to maintain work or your relationships are damaged and suffering. You feel unbalanced and not grounded, like you need to hold on to something sturdy or you might float away. The voice inside is on repeat saying "you aren't good enough," you're never going to get better," and "you don't deserve this."

"ITS OKAY TO BE SCARED, BEING SCARED MEANS YOU'RE ABOUT TO DO SOMETHING REALLY, REALLY BRAVE." Mandy Hale. Sometimes people struggle with the idea of going to see a therapist and finding the one that is right for them. Having rapport with your counselor is the most important thing. Once there is rapport with your counselor, the conversations will not feel forced/coerced ...you get to be in the present and work on why you came to therapy to begin with. Each person is unique, so I will use a variety of techniques to meet your presenting issue.

We all want to live in alignment with our values, pursuing our goals and passions, but we can get stuck at times, causing anxiety or distress. Sometimes the cause is a past trauma, negative self-concept, difficulty with coping, or something unexpected. I love to help people uncover and examine the roots of themselves, their thoughts, and their habits. This is how we gain awareness and the ability to make important inner shifts. My approach to therapy can be summed up with this quote from the poet Rumi: “Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”

I have worked as a therapist in a wide range of settings for over a decade now, and during this time, the one thing that I have seen repeatedly is that the therapeutic process is wholly unique for each individual client, whether they be middle schoolers, college students, or senior adults. When it comes to my therapeutic approach, it is relational and person-centered. I have found that there is no “one-size-fits-all” template. I firmly believe that you, the client, are the expert on you, and my job is to facilitate your journey towards healing and trusting yourself.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Austin?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
