I think being human is hard. I believe on some level, most people know who they want to be, but it gets really hard to show up in our lives when the bad feelings-fear, guilt, shame, embarrassment, anxiety-are present. I think my role as a therapist is to help people learn how to show up in their lives and grow enough to have these bad feelings, and be people they can be proud of.
Although I have worked successfully with a variety of clients, I I believe I specialize in helping clients be the people they hope to be. I have found that all sorts of things get in the way of this. This could include trauma, grief, anxiety, or sexuality.
The work I do is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a mindfulness-based approach geared towards helping people live meaningful lives even in the presence of adversity. ACT is not about feeling less, but fully feeling and still moving forward.
