Workshops on treatment of survivors of childhood abuse and domestic violence, recovering addicts, borderline and other personality disorders, dissociative disorders. 40 years clinical experience with PTSD, child abuse, dissociative disorders, anxiety, depression, recovering addicts, chronic illness, physical challenges. I use relational, psychodynamic therapy, with some cognitive behavioral techniques, to help clients learn from past family dynamics, recover from past trauma, improve current relationships, discover their talents, and create a better future.
Trauma treatment integrates developing constructive emotional expression with improving relationships, parenting and work skills. The 3-phase treatment model involves 1) building safety, developing symptom control & coping skills; 2) carefully pacing trauma processing to maintain life functioning; 3) integrating fragmented the self into a whole personality.
My approach to therapy takes into account how past and present family dynamics influence life transitions: striving for independence, enhancing relationships, raising children, divorce, empty nest, mid-life career change, caring for elderly parents, coping with loss, illness and disability, finding meaning in retirement and making end-of-life decisions.
