My view of the psychoanalytic process encompasses the developmental nature of our life - of our present and past experiences. Through our communication, we work toward the discovery of one’s independence, creativity, and individuality - that is, becoming a person. The goal with children and with adolescents is to restore them to the path of normal development. A developmental approach is utilized in assessment and planning. The therapeutic time may include play, talk, and meeting with parents. Parental involvement is crucial to the outcome of the endeavor.

Recruited to teach at the medical school (University of Arizona), I taught and supervised in psychiatry and psychology, consulted to hospitals and schools, and have taught at several national and international institutes, including the British Association of Psychotherapists, St Louis Psychoanalytic Institute, Colorado Center for Psychoanalytic Studies.

Together with several colleagues, I founded the Southwest Center for Psychoanalytic Studies, the goal of which was to train psychodynamic therapists in the southwest part of the U.S. Additional information about my services can be found on my website: www.rudyoldeschulte.com

This short course will cover the basic principles of Winnicott’s use of therapeutic consultations - reaching larger portions of the population needing psychotherapeutic assistance. Therapeutic consultations generally last from one to several sessions, are time flexible in nature, can be more tolerable for some people than committing to more intensive work, and are not a ‘watered-down’ psychoanalytic treatment. This adaptation or application of psychoanalytic skill is focused on providing a holding or facilitating environment and communication.
