My name is Roy Berman, L.C.S.W., B.C.D. , C.A.S.A.C., C.S.A.T. I have been a psychotherapist over forty years and I was clinically trained at Columbia University School of Social Work. I also have over two thousand hours of training in the addictions. My areas of specialty are alcoholism, substance abuse, gambling, sex addiction, compulsive over-eating, co-dependency and how these disorders affect the family. I am a psychodynamic and interactive psychotherapist. I actively get involved with my clients, constantly offering feedback and interpretation, not afraid to actively participate in the therapeutic process.
I am supportive and empathic, offering insight, understanding, and greater awareness. I am gently confrontative, helping clients to break through their denial, enhancing their understanding of the problem, and offering them concrete behavioral techniques to help them change their behavior, attitudes and feelings.
The ultimate goals of treatment are to help clients develop greater emotional maturity, a healthier self-identity and to enhance and develop healthy interpersonal relationships, a better self-esteem and self-worth addiction free. The goal is to better understand the underlying causes and triggers of their addiction so they can lead a sober and healthier life

Groups
Sexual addiiction
Focuses on sexual addiction as as compulsive disorder and all of the issues leading to sexual acting out, behaviors that perpetuate the addiction, and the ramifications and consequences of the addiction on significant others and family. Group members share feelings about their addiction and help each other to find ways to remain sober, deal with their relationships. and the feelings they have about their addiction. Clients feel safe to disclose previously uncomfortable and embarrassing feelings and learn to trust others and disclose parts of themselves that were previously difficult to talk about.
