Living life fully and successfully is a great challenge, while coping with emotional, behavioral, or cognitive struggles. We are taught to read, write and do math in school, but where do we learn the skills to live effectively and happily? I approach psychotherapy as an educational, supportive process that occurs in a safe environment where individuals can learn the skills to meet life's challenges and gain control of their lives. Our Centers offer not only psychotherapy services, but comprehensive neuropsychological testing and treatment for learning disorders, ADHD, memory problems, concussion, and brain disorders.
Emotional support, objective guidance, trust, positive rapport, and skill building are essential components in the psychotherapy relationship. The first session begins with a comprehensive clinical interview/exam and screening to set goals and create the treatment plan.
Depending on the concerns, treatment can include cognitive behavioral strategies, mindfulness and relaxation techniques, use of imagery, experiential exercises, homework, reading, and/or family/significant other sessions. If the main concern is cognitive or brain-related, a neuropsychological evaluation and cognitive rehab may be pursued.
