I have been counseling for over 45 years and have provided psychotherapy services to all types of individuals,couples and families. I strive to provide a compassionate and safe environment in which my clients can address their issues confidentially. I understand how difficult it is to first enter counseling and I am committed to making it a successful experience for them. My goals as a therapist are to help clients in discerning old patterns, explore feelings, thoughts, behaviors and attitudes and provide therapeutic opportunities for change.
I practice cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) which has become the cornerstone of today's therapy models.I use an integrated model of counseling that works well with many of the challenging problems we currently face.Counseling goals include decreasing maladaptive behaviors,increasing adaptive coping in mindfulness, stress tolerance, emotional regulation and interpersonal relationship skills.
I believe that the word "therapy" connotes "change." I am proactive, creative and goal-directed in my therapy approaches to help foster growth. However, each situation is unique and the client's needs will dictate my approach. The "C's" of psychotherapy are connection, compassion, cohesion, complexity, creativity and community.
