Great parents and great teachers struggle every day feeling like they can't help their kids figure out how to behave and survive their everyday life. They spend day after day fighting, yelling and being exhausted, and having nothing change. Their kids have dysregulated bodies that make them anxious, hyperactive, and sometimes even aggressive. My goal is to help these kids learn to calm and control their body and to help their adults to support them in doing this. I specialize in supporting kids with dysregulation disorders such as autism, anxiety, oppositional defiant disorder, sensory processing disorder, ADHD, and trauma.
I am a play therapist which means I work primarily with the child in weekly sessions, but I also include parents and teachers often. I use toys and art to help kids learn new skills and help develop their brains for regulation. My approach is relationship and skill focused.
It is incredibly hard being a parent or teacher these days. The way the world is set up it just doesn't naturally support our kids in developing self-regulation which means they are struggling more than ever. And when our kids struggle we struggle too.
