He has worked in diverse settings providing individual, couples, and family therapy. His group psychotherapy practice focused on substance abuse, LGBTQ support, thought disorders, interpersonal skills, and ADHD management. He was in a private psychiatry practice for seven years before opening the Greater Gainesville Counseling & Wellness Center, LLC.
Dr. Merrell earned his undergraduate degree from Villanova University, where he was later awarded a full scholarship for an M.A. in Spanish literature. Influenced by a minor in philosophy and a passion for helping others optimize, he obtained a fellowship to study psychology at the University of Florida and earned M.S. and Ph.D. degrees (APA accredited).
He completed a post-doctoral clinical fellowship in the University of Florida’s College of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, specializing in the treatment of pediatric and adult OCD, phobias, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
