Living with substance abuse can be traumatic and leave you feeling helpless. Families are forced to either fight the substance or adjust to its presence. Focus on problem behaviors, yours or someone else's, can lead to relationship struggles-and to a personal sense of chronic crisis and trauma. There is another way: by managing your thoughts and actions you can create calm within the storm to help yourself and your loved ones. So, if you are struggling with sobriety—yours or a loved one's, or recovering from a loved one's problem behaviors, I can help you regain your sanity with an accountable recovery plan.

I can help you create a plan to meet your needs and manage the effects of problem behaviors on your family. Using a mixture of behavioral-cognitive theory, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness practice we will practice new skills to engage a sober fulfilling life. I promote evidence-based alternatives to 12-Step programs, like AA and Al-Anon.

A loved one’s substance use does not have to mean anger and helplessness for your family. The tools of empathy, communication, behavior analysis, supportive relationships, crisis planning, and education can be used to build a values-based recovery plan for your family. Contact me to talk about how I can help your family recover from substance abuse.
