About
I work with men and women who are tired of struggling with painful emotions. People I help often arrive with the feeling that something is missing. Maybe years of trying to cope have led to a sense of despair.
Many have a sense that today's struggle comes from yesterday's traumas. The question remains: how to break free?
Patients want to get on with living a values driven life, free from the effort to battle painful emotions. I help people discover a direction and a connection with their own values to get on with living the life they choose.
I offer a form of psychotherapy known as mindfulness based cognitive therapy. This advanced form of therapy aims toward "freedom from our automatic reactions to thoughts, feelings and events." Research indicates that patients often overcome depression, transform emotional pain, and move beyond negative thinking and self judgment.
My doctorate (Ph.D.) in counseling psychology is from Texas A&M University. For over twenty years I have provided psychotherapy to adults as a licensed North Carolina psychologist.
My practice joined Park Ridge Medical Associates in 2010. Sharing offices with MD psychiatrists allows for a full range of services.
