My name is Rita I. Mckinney, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in sunny San Diego, California and provide telehealth services to anyone located in California. I work with individuals (teens and adults) and specialize in anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and life transitions. My approach to therapy is tailored to the needs of each client I work with. I am guided by Structural Family therapy lenses but often use tools from CBT, SFBT, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), and other modalities to help my clients create goals that get them closer to the fulfilled lives they want to experience.
I have found that my approach to therapy is a good fit for working with teens and adults who may be dealing with symptoms of depression and anxiety brought on by life transitions and relationships. My focus is to help clients increase their emotional toolbox skills so that they can navigate the transitions life brings them.
This process starts with building trust with my clients and making sure they feel heard. I use elements from SFBT to help clients create goals that are specific, measurable, and attainable. Throughout the sessions I always ask clients about what they think their progress is and if the goals we created are still applicable.
