Although my expertise covers a wide range of mental health areas, my focus has been on adolescents and families experiencing problems with adapting to life challenges. I have often worked with children and adolescents on couples and families on relationship issues and life transitions. Relationships grow and evolve as individuals move to different stages of life. Maintaining healthy relationships during times of change requires focused attention on individual and family systems needs. Life goals and long term aspirations can be distorted by near term priorities.
My approach to connecting with clients involves Restoration and Narrative Therapies, both of which involve client and therapist collaboration toward achieving client goals. These models help establish a non-judgmental and future directed relationship between the therapist, individual and/or family as we move to successful goal attainment.
I have significant expertise in working with military members, families, and veterans. Also, after working as a defense consultant for many years, I also understand the stresses and pressures related to business demands and the issues created by prolonged family separations.
