In 30+ years of experience, I've learned to tailor my treatment to the needs of clients. However, my preferred method of helping is through insight. Even people who feel they know themselves well often have blind spots that keep them trapped in unhappy ways of living. Over 2000 years ago, Socrates advised: "Know thyself." Human nature is essentially the same today as then; the advice holds up well. I will help you to know yourself in a way that helps to free you from current difficulties and lifelong patterns of thinking and feeling that have not served you well.
Although the personal qualities of a therapist are of great importance, all other things being equal, credentials and experience matter. I am a Board-certified clinical psychologist with postdoctoral certificates in both psychoanalysis and marital therapy and I am recognized by the National Register of Health Service Psychologists.
I am a professor of psychology at Adelphi University, clinical supervisor for the C.W. Post Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program and on the faculty of two psychoanalytic training institutes. I have many years of teaching experience at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels.
