Whether you are taking your first steps towards healing, seeking a new therapist, or in need of solutions to improve difficult areas in your life, I am honored to support you on your healing and growth journey. Through engagement in therapeutic processes, whether that entail EMDR, mindfulness, talk therapy, dream work, narrative therapy, use of your spiritual belief system, and/or engagement in the creative process; one can deepen their level of self-awareness, develop a more expansive level of consciousness, and discover new ways of being in the world. In doing so, we begin tending to our deepest core soul wounds.

My ideal client takes many different forms and they are all individualized. My client is suffering and I see it as my role to reduce human suffering so that it is no longer unbearable. I provide both short term (goal oriented), and long term (perhaps, more Existential and Gestalt based) therapy. I'm not going to change your personality, why would I? That makes you the unique individual that you are. My goal is to adjust and provide strategies for eliminating harmful behaviors that cause suffering and an inability to live in peace with oneself and with others.

I see therapy primarily as a process of self exploration which allows you to understand yourself better. Greater self awareness can help you either make different choices or experience where you are from a place of greater acceptance. We all had to go through a process to learn how to drive a car. Somehow we expect ourselves to figure out how to navigate our lives without fully understanding what drives us, how to get where we want to go, where the potholes are and how to avoid them. Before any of this can happen, you have to become more familiar with yourself through self exploration. My work is both thoughtful and practical.

I work with a myriad of life/relationship stressors and am a sex therapist. I have received post-licensure education through CIIS (California Institute of Integral Studies). I find that therapy is most beneficial when it is a conversation between you and I; not you feeling like you're talking to a brick wall. Occasional use of humor and/or swearing is welcomed as it can lower stress when stuck in fear, anger, or judgement. I believe an uncensored, authentic, and safe atmosphere leads to an honest and deep therapeutic relationship. For me, "sex positivity" means supporting beneficial, consensual relationships and activities.

I believe every person is unique with skills and challenges that make them who they are. By highlighting strengths to improve identified challenges, we can work towards you becoming the ultimate person you desire. I work with youth, their families and individuals who would like to see themselves as their best self. My work extends to those who struggle with, or are a support to someone who struggles with, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and trauma disorders. I believe incorporating culture into my work, and continue to explore and learn from cultures other than my own in order to provide the best quality services to my clients.

My approach to therapy is holistic and addresses mind, body, and spirit as essential, interwoven aspects of who we are. Through my years of practice, I've learned to integrate various somatic and mindfulness modalities into sessions because they go beyond strictly talk therapy in helping calm the nervous system, reduce the effects of trauma and overwhelm, foster new perspectives, and create a healthier relationship with the body. The result is greater resilience, self-compassion, fulfillment, empowerment, and joy. EFT Tapping and Embodied Mindfulness are two modalities that I use & teach so that clients have tools to use at home.

Our life experience as individuals impacts how we receive the world around us. There exists a unique relationship between who each of us is as a person and the moments that mount between birth and death. My intention is to gain an understanding of who you are, and the challenges that you and/or your relationship(s) face in order to build a trusting, healing relationship with you. I aim to provide a challenging space of empathetic support and non-judgmental understanding, encouraging personal growth through increased insight, and thus promoting a broader perspective as you approach solutions to the answers you are searching for.

Helping clients live a more full life by understanding themselves is at the core of my practice. Trauma is the cause of a significant amount of mental health issues. Sometimes it can be a shock trauma like a car accident. Sometimes it can be a developmental trauma from difficult relationships from childhood. I have spent my professional career helping people with trauma understand how trauma affects their lives and develop tools and skills to manage that trauma. My passion is bringing healing to people who have been through a traumatic/stressful experience.

I help strong women who have lost their spark and high-conflict couples. Women, everyone believes you have it together, but inside you know differently. Stress hits at the worst moments. A rude comment from a co-worker or your partner shatters you. At home, your romance needs a tune-up. But you don’t have the energy to rock the boat. I help women just like you rediscover their strength and intuition and live bigger, more powerful lives!

I work with couples, groups, and individuals. Do you isolate, feel misunderstood, or have difficult connecting to others? Have you been told you are "too sensitive" or "too intense"? Do you ever feel like no matter how hard you try - you can't catch a break? Do you want to hide parts of yourself? Do you want to build more connection in your relationships? Do you find you and your partner continuing to argue about the same things? You are not alone. Often times our old wounds and experiences get in the way of living.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Pleasant Hill?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
