The story and symptoms a client brings into therapy offers a glimpse into the true self. It also reveals how they have been derailed from their full authenticity along the way. Restoring parts of the self that have been disowned for the sake of survival, and actualizing one's dormant potentials and aspirations is a fundamental aim of the therapy process. Naming losses and what one has been robbed of is essential to this process of healing and reclamation. For this to happen, a safe, trusting collaboration is needed.

I borrow from traditional and holistic modalities to stabilize complex trauma and addictive disorders, inclusive of love and sex addictions. Psychopharmacology, naturopathy, acupuncture, art therapy and somatic therapy might be incorporated into the treatment plan. Spiritual and philosophical exploration, should it speak to the client's needs, can also occur.

Additionally, I authored A Clinician's Journey from Complex Trauma to Thriving, and am a freelance writer and playwright. I have a deep appreciation for the arts and enjoy working with artists from every medium.

Rev. Sheri Heller, LCSW's Groups

Therapy Group for Survivors of Cluster-b Parents

Personality Disordered parents lack empathy, are egomaniacal, manipulative and fixated on status and personae. PD parents employ myriad strategies to maintain power and control. Incapable of empathy and thus indifferent to another's pain, the PD parent is intolerant of any lapses in attention and impervious to truth and reason. The disordered parent perpetrates smear campaigns and vilifies and scapegoats, gaslights, willfully manipulates and physically, emotionally and psychologically abuses with no moral compunction. All this occurs while the abuser skillfully plays the victim. With shared identification and support healing and insight can ensue, which can result in resolution and empowerment.
