RPT is an intergenerational trauma healing modality for clients who grew up in an invalidating environment, i.e. with a parent with Borderline Personality Disorder or similar unpredictability. RPT offers a roadmap for this particular developmental wounding, including how to transform core beliefs. The model focuses on: the therapeutic relationship, providing the group member/client with a missing experience, and the use of the therapist's own stable, regulated nervous system as an interactive, dyadic regulator of the group member/client’s nervous system, which supports the experience of secure attachment.
Currently, my groups for clients with a loved one with BPD are on hold while I train therapists in ReParentive Therapy. Filling Our Cup First: Experiential Growth Oriented Training for Therapists begins on September 20, 2024. Therapists will experience the 10-week group that I have led ten times with clients, while learning the theory behind the group.
As a therapist you often attract clients whose wounding mirrors your own, which makes you most suited yet susceptible to your clientsIf you grew up in an invalidating environment, RPT supports you to be in the paradoxical dance of staying open enough to offer the medicine while protecting yourself from burnout, fatigue and getting caught in unhealthy roles.
