Sometimes people hit a wall. Things that used to be satisfying, like career, relationships, or hobbies don't light them up the way they did when they were younger. All the sleepless nights worrying about "why?" just lead to a useless cycle. I help people, aged 25-75, who have "hit the wall" and are ready to find a healthy way through to the other side. My clients are sick to death of repeating the same unsatisfying patterns but can't seem to stop or change. They feel stressed, ashamed, shut-down, or depressed and don't feel nearly enough love, joy, optimism, or creativity.
Most therapies rely on talk, theories, and good intentions, but words won't change old trauma-based patterns. When a person has been emotionally traumatized repeatedly, the problem is not a psychological one or a bad attitude. Their symptoms are a physiological reaction in the nervous system in response to the shock of the trauma.
Somatic Experiencing is based on understanding how our nervous system stores trauma, and how it can release it. I offer what I've learned not only from professional studies and 20 years of experience as a psychotherapist, but also from my own healing journey from a very challenging childhood.
