I provide support to help you create and maintain new ways of being that will positively enhance your relationship with yourself and others.
Good therapy can produce long lasting life changes. I approach therapy as a collaborative effort. I start with where the client finds themselves in the present. I listen with both curiosity and empathy to understand an individual's unique experience. In treatment I create an atmosphere of trust where together we can identify your strengths, find practical solutions to problems and unfold underlying difficulties that are obstacles to your experience of a rich and fulfilling life.

Psychoanalytic work is an intensive therapy that focuses on increasing self-understanding and a sense of personal freedom. It is very helpful for anxiety, depression, OCD, relationship issues, trauma and managing grief around life transitions. Psychotherapy is both an art and a science. I believe that my strength as a psychotherapist is that I am informed equally by my theoretical foundation as well as my creativity and intuition. The first part of my theoretical foundation is drawn from insight-oriented theories. I'm interested in how the interplay of your history and personality has contributed to your current concerns. The process of learning about and accepting who you are contributes to your healing. Through gentle and direct exploration and encouragement I will guide you toward self- awareness and compassionate self -acceptance.

A safe, supportive relationship with a therapist can be a powerful springboard to create healthier connections in one's life.
For over 20 years I have been fortunate to counsel individuals, couples and families as they strive to improve the quality of their lives. Clients and colleagues describe my style as caring, insightful, humorous, open and direct. The people I help often come to counseling feeling "stuck," weighed down by heavy moods or anxiety, and isolated. They yearn to experience greater joy and ease in their daily life, to recover from past hurts, to feel a deeper sense of meaning in their lives, and to have less conflict with loved ones. Some are looking to be free of addictive behaviors.

We are expected to tend to our physical wellness with annual physicals as a means to prevent acute illness and chronic disease. However, when it comes to our mental health, we often do not give the same attention and care. I provide a non-judgmental, safe space where you have the opportunity to nurture yourself fully; mind, body, and spirit.

As a couples coach I shuttle between developing individual insight, promoting awareness about the dynamic, in combination with concrete directive suggestions to create behavioral changes in the relationship.
Are you struggling with: effective, respectful communication with your partner; trauma recovery; difficulty setting limits or establishing boundaries; repeating unhealthy patterns of thinking, behavior, or emotion; identifying your needs and getting your needs met; day-to-day state of anxiety, anger, fear, or sadness; a difficult life transition. Have you been in therapy before, but didn’t achieve the change you were hoping for? Somatic Relational Therapy might be for you. We can’t think or talk our way out of trauma. We live in a body, and we experience suffering and trauma in our bodies, and it is through our body that we heal.

I work with adults and young adults experiencing stress, apathy, life transitions, a first diagnosis, ADHD, or relationship stress.
Waitlist only- I approach counseling with the understanding that we are biologically wired for connection. For many people mental health is compromised as our need for connection and meaning in our environment conflicts with cultural imperatives of independence and productivity.I view symptoms of distress as acts of resistance, not individual failings. For many, these acts of resistance result from injuries of marginalization and disconnection.I support clients to explore this resistance in the context of their current environment (friends, family, community).I work with clients from a place of empowerment, not pathology.

This creates a genuine relationship in which we can work out issues together.
Do you have past trauma that you still carry around despite your best efforts to cope? This trauma could be a single event, years of smaller incidents, a negative self- statement that's been with you forever, or a loss of some kind. Sometimes talk therapy doesn't actually solve the core issue and you continue to have overwhelming feelings when it comes up for you. I use a combination of EMDR and Brainspotting to work on these core issues. This can be done as a stand-alone therapy or as an adjunct to talk therapy.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
