I work with individuals, couples, and families on a multitude of issues that may be both relational and personal in nature. As a relationship specialist, I aim to support my clients by reinforcing the systems in which they operate. This means exploring together and making changes that will mean success beyond counseling.

Through experience within diverse treatment settings, I have worked with a wide range of clinical issues including anxiety and stress management, mood disorders, trauma, relationship concerns, the navigation of life transitions, and grief.
I am drawn to the work of therapy because I believe it is in the context of relationships that we come to know the many facets of ourselves, and can encounter opportunities for profound growth and healing. I see the therapy process as one of joint exploration into the rich worlds both within and around us, and consider it a great privilege to think deeply with others about what matters most in their lives. In this process I draw from evidence-based treatments like psychodynamic, relational, and experiential approaches, while seeking to respond flexibly to the unique needs of my clients.

The psychotherapeutic relationship is unique, unlike any other relationship we may have in our lives. We come to counseling to work with a trained professional who is sensitive to the ways in which our symptoms may be trying to communicate with us. The therapist is a fellow traveler, but one who maintains a degree of objectivity necessary to engage the more subtle nuances of the Soul which manifests itself differently in each one of us. The therapist provides a safe, confidential, and supportive environment in which we may take risks in an attempt at self-discovery.

Together, we will work to help you build a better relationship with your emotions and become in-tune with your body.
Do you find yourself overwhelmed by the intensity of your emotions? You may be fed up with feeling as if your emotions control your life, feeling like you’re the one who has to have it all together and feeling hopeless that things can be different. You might not even remember a time things didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to get control of your emotions. Most of all, you’re ready to set confident boundaries so that you can create a truly balanced life without sacrificing your needs.

Relationships are an essential component of life, yet the fact remains that they can get complicated. Whether it is a relationship with yourself, your partner, work, or family, therapy can be the catalyst to moving from complication to cultivation. Certainly time will pass, as it does, allow it to find you in better relationship with yourself and those in your life. Whether you are managing a life transition/adjustment, relationship trauma, marriage plateau, or family and life distress, you are welcome here.

I work with adults and adolescents, emphasis on helping individuals and families with relationship issues, mood disorders, depression, anxiety, and substance dependency.
Life can be a full-contact sport. Your heart can get trampled. And your mind forgets it is your servant....and becomes the master of worry. Frustration engulfs your efforts to negotiate life and fear sets up permanent residency. I find that's when people tolerate a lot...when they get stuck. Stuck in life. I have a Ph.D. in Counseling, licensed in the State of Texas as well as Nationally. I am a researcher in Emotional Intelligence and have taught in the counseling graduate programs at The University of Texas at San Antonio and St. Mary's University.

One of the most important factors in therapy is the therapeutic alliance; in other words, the relationship between the client and therapist matters.
Taking the first step to initiate therapy can be hard as facing our problems may feel scary and challenging. Therefore, I try to create a safe space for clients and make this process as smooth as possible. My approach to therapy is to help individuals build insight and self-understanding into their difficulties and patterns, and help them move from feeling “stuck or lost” to feeling encouraged and empowered to make the changes they want and need to have a fulfilling and satisfying life. In sessions with me, you will find warmth, support, empathy, genuineness and honesty, a splash of humor, as well as some challenging conversations.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
