In addition to working with depression and anxiety, I have a special interest in working with those going through various forms of life transitions, such as becoming pregnant or becoming a parent, ending of a relationship, and taking on the role of a caregiver for a loved one.
When faced with life's challenges and transitions, we experience a mixture of emotions, ranging from overwhelmed to deep sadness and anxiety. At times like these, it can be especially hard to find the space to pause, breathe fully, and stay connected with what truly matters in one's life. My approach is to offer a safe , compassionate space to stay centered through the various storms of life and the emotions they bring. Using evidence-based practices, I work to bring awareness to the values you hold dear and to stay grounded in those values while moving forward in life.

From struggling to THRIVING. Become more fully "yourself." Enjoy relationship satisfaction. Strengthen connection to something bigger that is meaningful. Get relief from depression and anxiety (really!). Improve effectiveness at work. Feel more at home in your body, content. Mindful and present. LAUGH. Choosing a therapist that is both really good AND a great fit is important. There is a difference here you will experience from the get go. The office is in a 1930's Cape Cod style house...inviting & comfortable. With warmth and character. David is unusually relational and "real." Sessions are 60, 75 or 90 minutes rather than 50.

Validation and starting where the client is are keys to a successful therapeutic relationship.
I use a strength based approach as a therapist. Working with adults, children, teens and families. Regardless of age many of the clients I have present with adjustment issues related to transitions they are experiencing in their lives. Clients often present with symptoms of anxiety and or depression resulting in a decrease in quality of life. Some are dealing with family communication challenges, a recent death or have a loved one who is sick or with a chronic illness. Clients can have a history of mental illness and others have relational challenges both personally, professionally or in school finding it hard to succeed.

Be it wrestling with unresolved trauma, anxiety and/or depression, relationship challenges, and/or parenting issues, my therapeutic goals are tend to explore effective ways to adjust to change and discover acceptance of past experiences.
As we evolve through life, we are faced with challenges and new roles that may make us feel inadequate and uncomfortable. It is not uncommon for a person to feel stuck or lost during this time. For the past 25 years, in an educational and therapeutic setting, I have worked along side adults, and couples/families to help create effective ways to tackle such challenges. When we negatively question our self-worth and strengths, it is time to develop productive ways to break old patterns and see through a truthful lenses.

I enjoy working with clients who feel that their minds have become unmanageable. This experience often arises from a belief that inner conflict and complexity is a problem to be solved rather than a state of affairs to be understood and befriended. Sometimes this unmanageability shows up as anxiety, where the mind dreads bad outcomes and wont allow you to enjoy your life. Other times as depression, where the mind is mired in hopelessness, despair, or resentment. Addictions of various sorts can also arise from this state of affairs, whereby we try to distract or quiet our minds through destructive patterns of behavior.

I think of my approach to helping people as a collaborative and educational one. Most people who come in for therapy are wanting to make a change in their lives but are struggling in some manor. I feel that the best way to implement change is through one's thoughts (cognitions), feelings, and behaviors-this kind of approach is known as Cognitive-Behavioral therapy (CBT). A person needs to welcome the challenges and opportunities in his or her life with a clear and calm mind - These are the cognitive and behavioral aspects of CBT.

Sometimes, we want to make changes but struggle with unknown parts of ourselves that seem to stop us. Habits, life long patterns and unconscious beliefs can hold us back from living the life that we long for. It takes time and courage to examine our belief system and reach out for what we really want. As a therapist, I follow the process of each individual. Clients are viewed on a spectrum of health, rather than through a lens of pathology. This approach creates a very curious and creative focus that encourages growth at the client’s own pace.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
