As a psychodynamic therapist, I believe that developing an understanding of and respectful appreciation for the origins of one’s difficulties can make space for new, more flexible and fulfilling ways of being to emerge. I strive to cultivate a safe environment wherein individuals can explore unformulated experiences and lesser known parts of themselves. My therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and responsive to the specific needs and goals of each person. I also hold that a strong therapeutic relationship can powerfully facilitate psychological growth and change.

Many of my clients are adults asking the "who am I" questions. They come to me to explore, express & discover themselves, perhaps for the first time or perhaps as part of a lifelong process. Whether anxiety or depression, a crisis, loss or trauma, feeling stuck or in transition, relationship issues, or being new to New York first sent them to me, what they all have in common is a desire to feel more authentic, more connected & at ease, and to live life with more joy, passion & purpose. I combine talk therapy with somatic therapies to help you reach your goals, embody your true self, and live the life you were meant to live.

I also offer support in exploring depression, anxiety, sexuality, and life transitions, particularly through the relationship you have with yourself and others.
I've been in therapy for many years, so I appreciate what it means for you to be here. If you are looking for a non-judgmental space to explore barriers which prevent you from achieving an authentic version of happiness, calmness, and emotional safety, I’d love to work with you. Life can feel overwhelming, heavy, and unpredictable, which creates a cycle of worry and an inability to change patterns of thoughts and behaviors. Therapy is the space to make those shifts, at a pace that is comfortable for you. True change requires honesty, curiosity, accountability, and compassion for yourself, which are all integral to my approach.

People come to therapy for a variety of reasons, including relationship and professional frustrations or issues related to depression and anxiety. The therapeutic process can focus on many themes at once, while we move towards helping you create a happier, more satisfying life. I take a relational approach in my work, utilizing the safe and trusting relationship we build together to reflect on life stressors that present themselves. While we will work collaboratively, your treatment will be driven by you and the areas you want to focus on.

Brynley believes the most important role of a therapist is as facilitator. In every interaction she is most concerned with creating a safe space that will allow insight to naturally arise as you walk your own individually tailored journey to healing and wellness. She believes the relationship between therapist and client is the most important ingredient in a successful treatment. Above all else, Brynley prioritizes connection, curiosity, communication, and empathy.

Relationships can bring us joy, but when there are communication or conflict resolution problems, that joy has the potential to turn into frustration and disappointment. I specialize in working with individuals and couples to help find that joy again. At its best therapy is collaborative and interactive. By creating a warm, non-judgmental environment you will have the safe space to explore any historical experiences that are limiting you and or your relationship. Through the use of both short-term solution-focused therapy and deeper relational techniques, I guide clients to find the relationships they long for.

I am a licensed therapist who specializes in working with adult individuals and couples. I believe that therapy is most effective as a collaboration between therapist and client and that the relationship provides the foundation for personal growth and healing. Using our past as a guide to understand how our stories have shaped us leads to change and new opportunity. By using a combination of psychodynamic and evidence-based strategies, I take an integrative approach to therapy ensuring each client’s individual needs and goals are carefully attended to.

This can feel ... exhausting. I strive to create a supportive, non-judgmental environment in which you feel comfortable putting that performance aside. I believe that we begin to heal through relationships. My hope, for our therapeutic relationship, is that you feel safe to be honest, authentic, and vulnerable about whatever your life looks like right now, while together, we reflect on what may have led you here.

In my therapeutic practice, I believe that healing is cultivated within the safety of a supportive and non-judgmental relationship. I find that this allows for individuals I work with to feel grounded in their truth as well as feel empowered to use the tools they gain through our work together. My practice offers relational, narrative, and psychodynamic approaches from a trauma-responsive lens. Through the development of a trusting therapeutic relationship, we will compassionately get to the center of challenging patterns and support you in your process to feel like your most authentic self.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
