I work as a generalist; which means concerns that are typical in adulthood such as work and relationship related issues.
I have been in practice as a psychologist for over 27 years. I work with a wide arrange of concerns including: depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship problems, grief & loss, and pet bereavement. But I specialize in working with men's issues and the majority of my clients are male. Many of my clients had some difficulty growing up and still feel a lingering impact. I help clients find resolution with underlying issues and build new ways coping and relating within important relationships and to themselves. I create a space to do this important work that is safe, caring, and warm.

If you have anger/adjustment issues, relationship difficulties, addictions, PTSD, bad habits, or self-defeating behaviors, and you are motivated to improve your life, I would like to help.
Everyone has long-standing behavior patterns, habitual perceptions, and irrational beliefs - left unexamined some of these are going to undermine your happiness. As a cognitive-constructivist (wordy way of saying we choose how we make sense of the world) my goal is to help you see things from different perspectives and to respond to life's challenges in new and more rewarding ways. Just as you have taught your body to respond reflexively, your thinking has also become reflexive. When you become aware of your patterned thoughts and emotional reflexes, you can decide what works for you and what works against you.

You are not alone in experiencing times when you need extra support - ideally from someone who makes you feel safe, accepted, understood, and warmly cared about, as well as someone skilled in their craft. My clients experience me in this way. I am passionate about working with people who are dealing with a wide range of issues, including relationship difficulties, grief and loss, major transitions, depression, anxiety, addiction, co-dependence, and trauma. Research shows that no one therapeutic approach is more effective than another – rather, the relationship between client and therapist has the greatest impact on healing.

My goal in psychotherapy is to establish a genuine relationship with my clients in order to foster emotional growth and change. We participate in an empathetic collaboration to address emotional and/or behavioral struggles with sensitivity to strengths and limitations. As my clients gain insights into their lives, I encourage them to consider taking actions to affect change. They thereby gain self confidence and a sense of well-being that empower them to reach their goals. In our exchanges we discuss the emotional, cultural, and social conditions that they face, in order to promote greater self-awareness.

I believe that the relationship between therapist and client is essential to making change in therapy.
My goal as a clinician is to deeply understand and be by your side as you explore your life and circumstances. I will always hold compassion for you and help you find it for yourself as you work toward emotional healing and growth. I have a psychodynamic lens and perspective but pull interventions from a wide range of evidence-based practices such as Family Systems Therapy, CBT, ACT, and DBT. My aim as a therapist is to understand where the problems in your life and relationships began, how they are maintained, and from that understanding, how we can make meaningful change.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
