Whether you are seeking couples or individual therapy, I will walk with you as a fellow traveler, guiding and supporting each step of the way towards greater relational health. For individual therapy, I mainly work with women or nonbinary folks.

Suffering may be a part of the human condition, but you can change your relationship to it.
In these unsettling times, it can be all too easy to revert to the comfort of the familiar. But before you act reflexively, ask yourself whether you can imagine acting reflectively and with intention. Our work together will encourage you to examine your automatic beliefs and default settings and question whether old patterns are serving you well. Experimenting with fresh approaches to challenging situations often leads to surprising new outcomes and allows you to reshape the narrative you carry about yourself, which in turn may shift your relationships with others.

I believe the therapeutic relationship is the heart of therapy, from which patterns can be brought forth, examined, repaired and transformed.
I believe the first and most sacred job of a therapist is to create a safe, nurturing space where you are fully seen and heard. From that space, I will walk with you along your path of growth and healing, helping to guide you on your journey.

I have a decade worth of experience helping people with anxiety and related disorders, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, peer conflicts, and many other challenges.
Every stage in life, every situation we face, brings with it challenges, hardships and opportunities. The psychotherapeutic process brings focus and awareness to where we are now in our lives, where we've been, and the person we want to be. I see the therapeutic process as a journey that we take together. Whether you are an adult, adolescent, or family, my goal is to create a safe, caring, non-judgmental environment where you can explore relationship dynamics, patterns of behavior, identity, and opportunities for growth and change.

Starting therapy can be a scary thing. You have to talk with a stranger about your most private worries. But somehow, if we make a connection, the therapy space feels like a safe place to talk and feel and be curious about your anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, trauma or whatever nudges you to seek extra support. To me, therapy is all about exploring your inner landscape, finding helpful ways to soothe yourself, developing self-compassion, untangling old stuff that still gets in the way, and becoming empowered to make healthy choices. As hard as we work, we can laugh together, too! Laughter is good medicine.

Although I may not share the same lived experience, I intentionally work to connect across difference by building a strong and trusting relationship.
Hi, I'm Kitt! I'm the owner of Defiant Therapy, LLC, a practice that offers an affirming space for clients to embrace "defiance" - a sense of trust in oneself that leads you to challenge expectations. I value creating relationships with clients that allow them to be free to discover their expansiveness, care for the parts of themself that need tenderness and fierce compassion, and get clear about the change they need and the acceptance they deserve. I work with individuals (adults and adolescents), relationships of two or more, and families who want and need this radical space.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
