In relationship and couples counseling, I help clients develop effective communication and conflict management skills, and relationship building blocks which generate understanding, intimacy, satisfaction, respect, affection, appreciation, and the mutual support that is so important for reaching personal aspirations.
I love helping individuals and couples achieve their goals and aspirations. I offer a caring, safe, and healing environment that allows clients the opportunity to explore, experience, work through problems, and create solutions that expand their potential for growth and wellness. As a proponent of integrative and holistic therapy that honors the mind-body connection and its impact on well-being, health, and happiness, I attend to the whole person, not just a set of symptoms or problems. I emphasize teaching skills that develop inner resources for successful coping in life. I use a variety of methods, but the method has to meet your needs.

In a relationship that's destined to survive, you will design your life together, learn when to accommodate, and when to speak up.
I will challenge you, help you with your goals, and focus on safety, support, and progress. I provide therapy to couples who want to resolve difficult issues effectively. I offer psychotherapy to adults and adolescents and promote trust in self so that much of the work continues outside the therapy room. I view 'eating disorders' as expressions, not pathologies and will work with you to find a healthy voice. For anxiety and depression I utilize imagery, relaxation and cognitive approaches while integrating the past as necessary. Please call or email me with any questions.

I believe people have the ability and strength to heal and change, sometimes we just need a little help in getting there. Through an integrative approach, I help clients recognize their strengths, and explore their patterns to help them realize their full potential. I believe that the core of therapy is a strong therapeutic relationship - my practice style is warm and empathic - I truly enjoy getting to know my clients, and I believe the relationship between therapist and client is essential in change.

I collaborate with patients to help them understand and resolve problems they experience with regard to: personal and work relationship difficulties, self-esteem concerns, depression and anxiety, unresolved grief and loss, sexual and intimacy conflicts, work and achievement inhibitions, parenting problems. Increased intellectual and emotional understanding of these problems often helps the individual develop more successful and rewarding approaches in dealing with day to day realities in adult life.

Are you feeling frustrated, stuck, or unhappy in your work life or relationships? Is there a deep loneliness with no one to talk to or really understand? Psychotherapy can help and heal. With over 30 years experience, I work by creating a safe, nurturing and understanding therapeutic relationship. My approach is to actively listen and work collaboratively on gaining a deeper understanding of the feelings, internal struggles, obstacles, the impact of earlier life experiences, as well as repeating patterns of behavior that may be underlying symptoms and the root cause of difficulties.

I believe that the foundation of any good therapeutic relationship is mutual trust and respect.
The philosopher Socrates once said that "the unexamined life is not worth living." As a therapist, I am committed to helping my clients examine their lives to find meaning, happiness, and strength. I work with individuals, couples, and families, striving to build skills to resolve conflicts, increase confidence, and move beyond past hurt and trauma. My clients often say that they appreciate my warmth, empathy, and combination of optimism and realism.

In therapy, the focus inevitably turns to the balance between self and others. Being responsible for one's own needs while being responsive to others, whether in a relationship, school, or at work is a dynamic, and sometimes confounding, process. How do you find that balance, being true to oneself and a truely caring person? That's the work of therapy. I work with individuals, couples, families, and students. I have a recognized expertise with severe psychological trauma, depression, anxiety, and marital problems including infidelities. I am proud to have been twice highly recommended by Washingtonian Magazine.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
