There are many things that draw us to therapy. Some arrive struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or career uncertainty. Others have difficulty managing  the roller coaster of emotions inherent in the journey of becoming a parent, while some experience a more general or vague sense of distress. Whatever your goals and challenges, I welcome the opportunity to see whether I may be a good fit for your journey.

My approach is behavioral and goal oriented. I focus on identifying new coping strategies and changing behavioral patterns that damage relationships. I assist clients in identifying deeply held values and taking behavioral steps towards getting closer to these values. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral techniques to help clients who struggle with relationship problems, depression, anxiety, OCD, and mood disorders. I help clients identify particular core beliefs that act as barriers to values-based behavior and explore alternative coping behaviors to utilize when one's schemas are triggered in relationships. Particular methods I incorporate in treatment include mindfulness, cognitive defusion, exposure, and Nonviolent communication.

I am a licensed psychotherapist with over 30 years of experience in Psychotherapy, Relationship/Marriage Counseling and Organizational Development and Transformation. Before becoming a licensed psychotherapist, I was a wooden boatbuilder, USCG Licensed Captain, businessman and educator. I still am. Over the years, a diverse spectrum of individuals, couples and groups have arrived in my practice with an equally diverse spectrum of challenges …some common …some not so common. We have worked on them together, usually with satisfying success for all concerned.

I help clients to heal, deepen, and improve their most important relationship: the relationship with yourself.
Experiencing anxiety, fear, anger, and sadness is a natural part of being human. How you respond to these emotions is what makes all the difference and can dictate whether you sink and struggle or thrive and grow. Amazingly, it is by facing and bringing love to what you wish you could 'get rid of' that allows parts of you to transform and metabolize into the power and grace you long to feel. My job is to help you navigate this journey and learn the skills to be your own captain; to help you see how much choice you actually have.

I also have extensive experience working with children, adolescents and adults who are experiencing relationship/family issues, divorce, and LGBTQ challenges.
Are you hindered by anxiety, depression, or trauma, preventing you from expressing your authentic self? Do you find yourself trapped in navigating challenging family and relationship situations? Every minor issue now feels incredibly overwhelming, reopening past wounds and creating new ones. Despite attempting to bury the pain, it persists, leaving you feeling isolated and tormented. The constant exhaustion, stress, and anger make you question your resilience. Unsure of where to seek assistance, you don't have to endure this painful journey by yourself. I aim to assist you in achieving a more integrated and balanced sense of self.

I've found that inner and relationship conflicts, anxiety, depression, compulsions, and psychological distress of any kind, can be perfect opportunities to know ourselves more deeply, and to come into a more intimate and meaningful engagement with our lives and with others.
I am here to help you work through the challenges you've been trying to resolve alone. I specialize in working with individuals who are "high-achievers/perfectionists" yet struggle with satisfying, stable intimacy in their relationships. I also work with those who feel "different" from their peers in a variety of ways. I help my clients transform their struggles into a pathway to a powerful and deep alliance with themselves and with the important people in their lives. Inner intimacy can become the basis and blueprint for all other forms of connection in your life.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
