We use the Prepare-Enrich premarital assessment program which helps increase a couple's understanding, closeness and intimacy and examines the relationship highlighting areas of strength and limitation.
New Life Counseling Center is a progressive and inclusive Christian counseling center in Mission Valley offering individual, couples, family and premarital counseling. Our therapists consist of both licensed Psychologists and Marriage & Family Therapists in addition to qualified Marriage & Family Therapist interns. Some of our therapists also have degrees from seminaries and some are ordained pastors. In addition to Christian counseling, we also see clients who have no religious or spiritual affiliation. We try and make NLCC a resource where anyone can seek support and find solutions to the issues they want addressed in a safe, comfortable and warm environment.

"What one person has to offer to another, is their own being, nothing more, nothing less" - Ram Dass. My therapeutic approach is a strength-based perspective that focuses on a person's innate potential rather than pathologies and shortfalls. Consistent with this approach, my role as a therapist lies not in solving problems but in helping clients examine inhibited issues and biases, identify practical solutions to their problems and progress towards deeper wisdom. I have worked with clients of various ethnicities, addressing a range of mental health issues, relationship problems, and life transitions.

After 30 years of practice, I remain excited about new clients, new treatment approaches, and the joy of a client leaving my office with a smile and thank-you. I believe in being in the moment, being present, creating true and authentic contact, and facilitating opportunities for my clients to develop deeper understandings and practical skills. I work with a wide range of human problems, and enjoy the diversity that my practice has deliberately maintained. I work in an eclectic manner. I think meditation, laughter and play, are great for what ails us.

People seek therapy for many different reasons. Often, it is the result of either a specific incident which impairs our ability to cope, heal and progress, or it is the culmination of longstanding habits, trends, and patterns that continue to render unfulfilling or even detrimental results. I make every effort to empower clients to evolve beyond their instincts if the results have prevented them from reaching their goals. I approach each client with curiosity in an attempt to shed light on their unique decision making process and to enhance their ability to make more healthful and conscientious choices.

My connection to the mental health field comes from a deeply personal place — as a first generation female-Latinx born in the USA to Ecuadorian parents and the first person in my family to attend college, I grew up with many of the common challenges that female-Latinx folks face, especially regarding the taboo around mental health.

In my experience in the mental health field my unique background has helped me work with people with a variety of different challenges and I use that experience to help build rapport and professional relationship with the people and families I help.
My Philosophy is simple, start where you are at in the process. My approach is to work with you and together we would develop goals and expectations on what you want to work on. It is a collaborative effort in order to help you make progress and sustain change once progress is made. Even though I'm seen as the professional, to me your're the professional of you're life and its my job to help guide you into a place where you feel comfortable. For further info please check out my website at quintanacounseling.com.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
