In my work as a therapist, my first priority is to establish a comfortable, respectful working relationship that will allow my clients to begin to focus on the often difficult, painful and complex feelings, issues and situations that have brought them to counseling. My role is to listen carefully and thoughtfully, and to help guide and facilitate discussions that will help my clients to grow and change in beneficial ways, to resolve important conflicts and issues, and to reduce the severity of symptoms such as anxiety, depressed mood and difficulty managing anger.

My approach enables the client and therapist to establish a hope based, healing relationship.
With over 20 years of experience in the field of helping others, I have learned that making a genuine connection with people is the best way in which to begin the work of therapy. One of the most important skills I have to offer is to carefully and compassionately listen to what you have to say. We then go from there; when you are ready, we begin to look at how to change.

I help high-school aged teens and adults navigate real issues like anxiety, depression, grief, stress, panic, loneliness, divorce, identity and relationship issues.
Everyone can benefit from some help once in a while, and finding a therapist who is a good fit can feel stressful and confusing. You want to feel understood, respected, and supported while getting the individual attention you need. Life is too short to be anxious or depressed all the time, surrender to bad relationships, hold grudges, or let trauma control us. I will help you get "unstuck", learn to move beyond emotional pain, and live your life in a healthier way. Whatever it is that you are facing, I believe one of the bravest things you can do is to take charge of your future and write your own story.

It is never easy to make that initial phone call even when you are dealing with a personal or relationship problem, managing depression, anxiety, parenting, or going through a divorce. My practical and positive approach has helped many people for over the 25 years. In addition, I like to use humor whenever possible.I have a compassionate and gentle manner, listen carefully to the issues and decide with you, goals for therapy. While I draw on a range of approaches, including cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic and psycho-educational, it is the strength of the relationship that leads to success in reaching your goals.

Research shows that the factor that leads to the most success in therapy is the client-therapist relationship, thus building a safe, open (and maybe even fun) relationship with my clients is my top priority.
Are you having a hard time figuring it all out? What you want, how to get there, or who you are? If you have big ideas that you’re having a hard time translating into daily life, you’ve come to the right place. I love working with adolescents and young adults who want to create a path towards their goals. I often work with people whose anxiety, depression, trauma, or behavioral struggles have held them back from being able to find the version of themself that they seek. If you know where you want to be but can’t get there or if you don’t even know who you want to be, let’s talk. Find out more here: www.ampersandcounselingma.com.

My specialty is in teaching healthy communication skills to couples, and to help anyone to communicate more effectively. This comes from educating clients about how their past programming and particularly family systems affects them and can create defenses that cause obstacles in their lives. Through understanding one learns to accept all parts of themselves and set themselves free from unwanted emotions and behaviors. Communication improves and personal growth (higher emotional EQ) develops.

Many of my patients are recovering from addictions of various sorts. Many of them, as well as other patients, have mood disorders (anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder). I also work with individuals and families struggling with problems in work and career, marriage and similar relationships, and what are often described as existential or spiritual crises--the lack of a sense of meaning and purpose in life. I involve families in therapy when possible--people don't live and learn as isolated individuals.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
