This takes place from a relational perspective that addresses the symptoms and the sources of your impasses that will more likely bring about long-lasting change.
Oftentimes, the pain that we experience is rooted in relationships and as a result, it is in relationships that we heal. As a Jesus follower, I am here to walk with you through some of the hardest moments in your life in a way that will result in true and lasting change.

I work from a relational psychodynamic lens, which means I use the therapeutic relationship to help develop greater self-awareness.
Therapy is about learning how to tell our stories. It is deepening our courage to look ourselves in the face and tell the truth of what we find. It is taking in the bountiful love in the world though it sometimes seems impossible to find. It is learning to savor the taste of a good meal and laughter with others. It is knowing the name of our sadness whether or not we can find our tears. It is being. Just as we are with hope for more to come.

Her style of therapy is process-oriented and relational.
"The journey we are on takes us in all different directions, testing us at every turn. There is help and hope. I have been honored to hear people's stories at various points of their journey; witnessing, observing, supporting, empathizing, listening and reflecting. Through hearing their stories, I have learned how fragile the human condition is, and at the same time, the empowering strengths and resiliency each one intrinsically has in adapting and surviving the difficulties put before them."

I work with adolescents and adults with anxiety, depression, grief, chronic pain, issues of personal identity (race/gender/sexuality orientation), and life transitions (relational/ academic/professional). Navigating into the depths of who we are reveals we are so much more than what we sense at the surface. Having support on our journey can allow us to develop tolerance for our full range of emotions, gain awareness of what we feel in our bodies, discover new insights into past events, expand our ability to discuss fears, increase empathy for ourselves, experience more meaningful relationships.

My background allows me to focus on your relational issues.
Labeling emotions is challenging; if you often find yourself stuck, confused, perhaps avoidant, experiencing isolation, racing thoughts, ruminating, withdrawn these are symptoms or perhaps warning signs regarding underlying mental health issues. It’s exhausting and finding a moment of silence from your thoughts or peace seems never-ending. I believe together, we can work through it! I enjoy meeting with adults, teens, and families, homing in on your background to identify your current problems and goals.

My clients are African American, Black and other ethnic groups. I focus my work and research on the lived experiences of my clients as I aim to decolonize therapy with a justice-oriented and strengths-based approach. I work with individuals to develop positive tools and resources to help improve their relational and individual wellbeing. As people of color, we have not always been given the opportunity to address the intricacies of our mental health. We need to remind ourselves that we deserve to have a voice and tend to the vulnerable parts of who we are and what we experience in our life, so allow me to join you on this journey!

I approach therapy from a relational psychodynamic and attachment-based framework, with strong influences from intersectional feminism and trauma-informed care practices.
Wherever you’ve been, however you’ve arrived, I’m glad you are here. To me, therapy is about taking time and space to listen to our bodies and emotions, with the hope of allowing us to reconnect with our inherent wisdom. We don't lose touch with this wisdom by accident. Trauma, unhealed wounds, and oppression separate us from our wisdom and intuition, and impact our ability to access all parts of ourselves. You and your body carry so much, from the grief and resilience of those who came before you, to the stress of everyday life. You were never meant to carry it all on your own.

Our relationship can be the revealer of previous patterns, blocks, conflict styles and relational tendencies.
We all know that life is full of messiness, but what if we didn’t have to hold it together. What if we didn’t show a version of ourselves or wear a facade. And what if we could be really honest about our experiences, thoughts, and feelings. Sometimes it’s hard to find places to allow our chaos, confusion and pain to come out of hiding and be seen. My hope is that you find comfort and safety to allow the mess to show up. I believe therapy offers us the invitation to do something different — to choose a new way. It can be an uncomfortable and powerful offer to be seen, known and heard for who you really are.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
