I practice from an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, harm-reduction, trauma-informed, relational-cultural, systems, and person-centered framework.
I work with youth, age 13+, and adults across the lifespan. I'm passionate about LGBTQIA+ and gender affirming mental health therapy, I support folks in navigating and exploring relationship to self and others (sex and body positive, ethical non-monogamy and poly affirming), anxiety, depression, trauma, family of origin, disability, chronic-illness, grief, substance use, life transitions and challenges. I have an intersectional, anti-oppressive approach to therapy— highlighting how our relationship to ourselves, community, environment, and historical legacies impact and affect each other.

I work well with people who feel disconnected in their own emotional, behavioral, and relational patterns, being hopeful their path towards personal growth, change, self-awareness and increased well-being will lead them to explore parts of themselves they are not so aware of, and to move forward in having improved interpersonal, and emotional functioning.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), in the State of Washington. I have a career experience in a variety of mental health work-related duties and environments, inpatient/outpatient/telehealth atmospheres, and a variation of different degrees of counseling positions over the past 30 years. A majority of my professional counseling experiences has included working in mental health community agencies, and within the public-school system, providing an array of services working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. My current practice only offers Telehealth Therapy Sessions. (ADHD, Trauma, Depression, Anxiety).

My work is trauma-informed and influenced by relational psychotherapy (trying out ways of relating in therapy, as a sort of "lab experience" for real life), depth psychotherapy (paying attention to what's "under the surface"), and somatic therapy (calming your body so you have more "space" to address what's happening).
Every feeling in your body and mind has a story to tell about both your present and your past. Healing begins when we listen with compassion to those stories. I am committed to being a kind and honest partner with you in considering the way your experiences have shaped the way you show up in day-to-day life. Maybe you struggle to maintain boundaries, or to feel truly connected in relationships. Maybe you need to process recent changes in your life, or are seeking to drop deeper into your body. Maybe you are navigating loss or loneliness, or even wondering who you truly are.

Emotions are often like water. They slip through our fingers, overwhelm us in crashes, and ebb & flow like waves. Therapy can be a place to explore the depths of our emotional experiences, building our capacity to hold them, and our ability to learn from them. You are charting our path and steering the ship, while I suggest directions to explore or offer tools that might help in our journey; Together we create a map of what we’ve discovered, and mend any leaks in your ship.

Life Happens! Sometimes it helps to have compassionate and non-judgmental support as you work through life issues and transitions. I offer a client centered and holistic therapeutic approach that aims to bring to light the associations between: nutrition/diet; stress; family history; support systems & resources; life experiences; environment; and issues related to current and/or historical oppression; and how YOUR body, mind, and spirit have been reacting. I believe in encouraging and empowering my clients towards achieving the results they seek. I help clients identify and utilize their strengths and to identify and release unhealthy practices or defense mechanisms.

I specialize in working clinically with adolescents and their families as they navigate difficult and overwhelming experiences, relationships, or transitions. I also enjoy working with individual adults and couples who need a safe and honest place to reimagine what life can be. While our work can include clinical assessment and specific treatment goals, you are likely interested in therapy for more personal reasons. Perhaps your life has become dominated by loneliness, confusion, broken relationships, unmanageable anger or deep sadness. Perhaps you feel completely stuck. Your priorities and needs will guide our work together.

As a licensed therapist, I have over 20 years of experience helping clients get to a better place. Today, many of them are thriving in healthy relationships and living authentic lives filled with passion, purpose, and a sense of meaning. Despite what you're going through, there is hope for a better tomorrow. I can say that with certainty because of what I know about the human spirit. It is resilient and has the ability to recover quickly from hurt, pain and some of life's more challenging issues. If you found me, something is preventing you from living your best life, the life you were created to have. I can help.

I work with individual adult clients and couples who are facing anxiety, depression, life transitions, loss, trauma, and challenges at work or in relationships. Since 2002, I have counseled adults, couples, and groups in community mental health and medical clinics, as well as in my private practice. I have also conducted in-depth research on trauma, hopelessness, empathy, and intimacy. Above all, I believe that my clients, not I, hold the key to their growth and that emotional pain and anxiety, when given respect and non-judgmental attention, can often provide some of the best opportunities for learning.

Scientifically, change occurs when we develop new neural pathways. Humanly, change occurs when we experience. Nature helps to facilitate change within our brain as we embrace our innate biophilia. When we connect and identify with land, we re-own its vital and powerful energies, and the dynamism of the Earth is reflected within us.Through facilitated integration with nature, it is my objective to help reconnect you with the natural world. Along with nature-based activities, talk therapy is offered. However, sometimes the silence we experience in nature can be a great teacher. It is up to you determine what works best for you!

These emotional and behavioral patterns seem unshakeable; they show up in relationships and keep you from feeling the joy and genuine connection you desire. You may be able to logically trace these patterns to an origin in childhood trauma or internalized oppression, but in the heat of the moment, it’s as if your body goes on autopilot, and the cycle repeats once again. These patterns have been creating stagnation and isolation that are getting too painful and exhausting to cope with anymore. As a therapist, my goal is to help you transform these patterns so that you can experience a greater sense of agency, belonging, and ease.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
