We take an eclectic approach, and have years of experience trained in psychodynamic, relational and interpersonal therapy, as well as CBT.
Over the years my team and I have helped individuals and couples through many life stages find meaning and direction. By providing feedback and reflections with kindness, sensitivity and humor, we built good psychotherapeutic relationships with respect and trust. You too can find safety and comfort during our time together in order to maximize your growth, and work toward feelings of well-being and satisfaction. Since no one person is the same, there is no one way to do psychotherapy. Your individuality will always be respected as we are sensitive to your culture, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and family background.

I am trained in psychoanalysis and practice psychodynamic and relational psychotherapy.
Have you been contemplating seeing a therapist but are not sure it is for you or would be helpful? There are many reasons a person may seek therapy. People usually seek therapy because they are unhappy or dissatisfied with their life and want or need change. Mental health issues, addictions to chemicals or unhealthy lifestyles, family or relationship issues or a general discontent with your life and the choices that are not working anymore are some of the reasons to seek treatment. Therapy is also a perfect addition to a wellness or self improvement and/or self exploration practice.

I am a licensed clinical social worker with over thirty years of extensive experience working with clients of all ages and functional levels. I help others feel that they are being heard, and can assist them with developing coping mechanisms to address issues they face. I am patient, sensitive, and have a sense of humor. My choice of profession as a social worker was not random; it was a natural calling because of the empathy and support I can offer to others. Let's connect now!

I use an integrative therapy approach of psychodynamic, relational and cognitive-behavioral therapies.
While earning my doctorate in child and school psychology at New York University, I had the opportunity to work in hospitals, schools and private practice providing psychotherapy and administering evaluations to children, adolescents and adults. While I enjoy working with individuals of all ages, I have a passion for working with adolescents/teenagers and young adults and guiding them to raise self-awareness, encourage self-esteem and self-love and ultimately make positive changes to become happier individuals.

I have assisted clients challenged and/or coping with chronic mental illness, harming issues, substance abuse, anxiety, depression, personality disorders, impulse/anger control, trauma, and relational (peer, couple, family, career, organizational) situations through the most optimal form (for both them and the specific issue) of modality: individual; couple; family; group.
For all of our individually unique strengths, skills, accomplishments and spirits, stress, obstacles, conflicts, issues, situations occur in everyone's life when seeking professional assistance can be more useful than requesting the same from a family member, partner or friend (despite their best intentions). I have spent my entire life/career (as a Volunteer; Serviceman; Business Professional and Counselor/Therapist) attempting to alleviate the pain and support and enhance the lives of individuals that I have been involved with. These sessions will represent OUR individual, integrated approach at attempting to resolve or best manage the presenting issue(s) and related obstacles, in a private, safe, and empathetic setting.

For over 20 years I have helped clients work through aspects of their lives they find most challenging. Understanding how these difficulties affect ongoing non-productive communication, help to restore positive relational patterns and everyday interactions. Intense verbal or non-verbal chronic behavior may leave partners feeling angry, hurt or confused. Learning to observe and repair complex perceptions, helps to soften negative and reactive behaviors. Gestures, tones and shouting are all forms of communication. Each may create tension, anger or even total withdrawal. The ability to process conflicting needs allows for acceptance.

My training and experience include cognitive behavioral, relational, dynamic, and somatic therapies as we all need a variety of “tools” to address different issues.
As a licensed psychologist for almost 30 years, I am highly experienced in working with adults of all ages (emerging adults to older adults) and backgrounds to help understand or change their feelings or behaviors, or to work through a challenging situation or trauma. I use an authentic and interactive approach in working together to understand your experiences, develop goals and reach them in an open and supportive environment. I am especially drawn to helping those of diverse backgrounds, including culturally diverse and LGBTQ+ issues, in coping with mental health issues.

Making the decision to begin therapy is not always an easy one, and the fact that you've begun your search already demonstrates perseverance and motivation to feel well again. My approach to therapy is rooted in relational psychodynamic theory, but I will frequently use a variety of cognitive and behavioral techniques, depending on you and your life story. The most important part of any treatment, however, is the relationship between the therapist and the patient, and therefore it is my ultimate goal to help you feel comfortable and supported in a non-judgmental, warm environment.

Modalities of treatment used are trauma-informed CBT, Internal Family Systems (IFS), relational, anti-oppressive, culturally-sensitive, and client-centered therapy.
Welcome to therapy! It takes a level of courage, resilience, and empowerment to get here. I am a trauma-informed licensed mental health clinician working with adolescents, young adults, and the adult population. I specialize in supporting survivors of intimate partner violence and domestic violence. I also work with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, low self-esteem, and personality disorders. I truly believe that in working through these struggles, a client needs to be supported and encouraged to freely voice their thoughts, feelings, and emotions in a nonjudgemental, caring, and open space.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
