Through a collaborative dialogue inspired by an embodied-relational approach, we will experiment with new, more enriching ways of relating to yourself and others.
Whatever brings you here – whether challenging circumstances or an internal conflict – finding the right support can be daunting. As a gestalt therapist and a cultural anthropologist, I see therapy as an exercise of the possible. My approach aims to expand the horizons of what you’ve come to see as “true” regarding who you are and your prospects for fulfillment. With compassion and curiosity, we will develop awareness of – and gently interrogate – your constructions of yourself, identifying barriers to authentic and nourishing contact. Often formed early in life, these dated templates may stifle growth and meaningful relationships.

I draw on psychodynamic and relational theory, with a pragmatic openness to integrative techniques, including mindfulness-based, emotion-focused, cognitive-behavioral, dialectical-behavioral, and transference-focused psychotherapies.
I’m a clinical psychologist with a B.A. from Dartmouth College and M.A. and Ph.D. from the City College of New York. Prior to completing my doctorate, I worked at Columbia University’s Barnard Toddler Center, conducted research at Columbia Medical Center’s Perinatal Pathways Lab, and taught undergraduate courses in child psychology at the City University of New York. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at the Brooklyn VA Medical Center, with rotations in the PTSD Clinic, Primary Care Clinic and Women's Clinic.

Beginning or resuming psychotherapy is a deeply personal choice that is often met with complicated and sometimes even conflicting emotions. I believe that in order for people to make the best use of psychotherapy, they need to feel respected, safe, and supported within the therapeutic relationship. This lays the foundation upon which one can better understand themselves and in turn grow. My practice aims to assist people with improving the quality of their interpersonal relationships, deepening their understanding of the familial/relational context in which they were raised, and living a more fulfilling life.

I formulate your story from a psychodynamic orientation with the belief that the past influences the present and operate from a relational lens (relationships influence well-being), though I have experience using cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness techniques.
Are you attempting to manage feelings that have been building up over time? You may be living with anxiety and depression, generally feeling stuck, and/or are trying to manage the personalities of people around you. Perhaps you aren’t quite sure how to talk about what’s happening; but something doesn’t feel right—things just feel off. During times like this, talking to a professional can help. I work with young adults, parents, college and graduate students including international students. I have niche specialized experience working with medical professionals such as physicians, nurses and medical trainees.

I integrate psychodynamic, relational and cognitive-behavioral models and, where appropriate, health psychology, tailoring my work to each individual and their circumstances.
Psychotherapy can benefit people facing a range of challenges. Currently, I see adults and adolescents struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship or interpersonal difficulties, and sometimes with health/illness issues. I see many people experiencing distress and other symptoms associated with life transitions such as adolescence, marriage, new parenthood or challenges in family planning, divorce, professional or personal role redefinition, retirement, and aging. I provide counseling to individuals and couples struggling with the shifting roles and demands of these complicated times.

I draw from relational/psychodynamic and skills-based approaches and have completed post graduate trainings for relationships and EMDR.
We all long to reach a place of consistently feeling seen, heard and understood. I want to help you work towards reaching this place within yourself, your work and your relationships. There are many things that get in our way while striving to reach this place: feeling overwhelmed by work, grief, loss, past traumas, feeling anxious about the uncertainty of the future, unsure of what to do next. Sometimes we just feel stuck. I am here to work through all of that with you. Relationships: Perhaps you feel disconnected, withdrawn or misunderstood by your partner(s)

I utilize an integrative approach to fit your unique needs, combining aspects of relational and mindfulness work.
Are you feeling stuck, anxious, or overwhelmed? Do you struggle with following through on making positive changes? Are you having trouble setting boundaries in your relationships? Do you just "feel off" and you're not sure what's wrong? When life inevitably throws us curveballs they often highlight our self-doubt, and negative feelings and beliefs about ourselves and others that we had been ignoring or didn't even know we had. You may have experienced loss, a difficult diagnosis, relationship or marital challenges, or you are carrying a painful trauma from your past. Maybe you are simply looking to gain clarity and self-awareness.

I also have a more relational style in how I build rapport with clients and am not afraid of using humor.
As a bilingual/bicultural therapist (Spanish) I have been committed to providing therapeutic services to the Latino community and to New Yorkers of varying diversity. Trauma comes in many different forms and I specialize in helping people develop assertiveness skills and improve their personal relationships. I also specialize in sex therapy, experiences specific to women, LGBTQIA+, harm reduction, HIV+ individuals, family dysfunction, and identity issues including otherkin.

I am grounded in psychodynamic relational theory and I also use a broad and integrative style to tailor therapy to the goals and needs of each individual.
Welcome! I am here to offer you help through life’s most difficult transitions. Anxiety, depression, past trauma, and current stressors can weigh us down. Sometimes, even positive changes, like pregnancy and postpartum, can be hard. While I can help clients with a variety of issues, my specialties include treatment of trauma/PTSD as well as treatment of mood and anxiety disorders during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

My style is relational and empathic, at the same time challenging and focused for my patients to achieve the best therapeutic results.
As a native New Yorker, born and raised on Long Island, living in the city for the last 10 years, I have been connected to the people who choose to live here. A bustling city where, as Frank Sinatra said so well, "if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere". I believe this to be true and I believe it to be easier with the work of psychology.

My training is as a relational psychoanalyst and psychotherapist.
After more than 35 years of doing this work, I am still reminded daily that every therapeutic relationship is different. Working together we will begin to understand how you came to be the person you are, what things hold you back, and how you can learn to change. We will look at your past, but also at your present, including what happens between the two of us. Through treatment you should expect to feel more confident and more flexible in your ability to respond to problems that inevitably crop up. My goal is to help you experience your life as fully as possible.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
