When beginning psychotherapy, individuals often feel vulnerable and in need of a safe space in which to examine their struggles and work towards healing. With over 30 years of experience, and as a Harvard-trained psychologist, I provide such a space. I work with empathy, intellect, and humor to help clients address such diverse concerns as life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, and eating disorders. My approach is grounded in psychodynamic and relational theories, and I use CBT and mindfulness techniques where appropriate to help clients understand themselves, achieve their goals, and find satisfaction in their lives.

I am a couples and individual therapist that works from a psychodynamic/relational lens, while also incorporating IFS, Humanistic and ACT.
My goal as a clinician is to provide safety and assurance as you navigate the journey of emotional healing. I encourage you to bring your whole self into the room - the parts you’re proud of, and the parts you prefer to ignore. There is no need to "have it all figured out." All I ask is that you remain open and curious to the known and unknown parts of yourself. Through this process, you will begin to better understand yourself and live a life worth living.

Isn't it odd that the most impactful relationships in our life is something we are never taught how to engage in? I see couples for constructive premarital counseling, recovery from a relational trauma (like an affair or breech of trust) or right on the brink of a breakup.
The clients I work with know how much I love and deeply respect the work we do together. Using a combination of narrative therapy, strengths based therapy and psychodynamic methods, I help each person establish their personal story and identify their personal goals. In addition to talk therapy, I am an EMDR practitioner and use this treatment to relieve trauma and advance clinical treatments. Please visit my website for more info or contact me to set up a quick phone call.

I draw from trauma informed, feminist-relational, strength-based, and body-based views.
It takes courage to reach out for support and begin a healing journey. I believe that the therapeutic relationship can be a source of that healing. I put a lot of emphasis on creating an atmosphere of respect, caring and safety. We will collaborate to understand and help the parts in you that stand in your way to feeling satisfied and happy. My particular areas of experience and interest are: coping with the aftermath of traumatic and painful experiences, life transitions, women's issues, relationships, complicated grief, anxiety, stage fright and creative blocks, depression, medical diagnoses and pain issues, multiculturalism.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
