I practice modern and relational psychoanalytic (also known as psychodynamic) psychotherapy in private practice.
People who have been in my practice often tell me one of the things they treasure most highly about their therapeutic journey is feeling hopeful again. I welcome adults and mature adolescents to my practice who are struggling with a wide range of issues – problems with relationships, work, love, fear, hearing voices, play, sex, confusion, being alone, being with others, paranoia, feeling stuck, despair, worry, troubling thoughts, grief, etc. I am trained and experienced in treating depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, psychotic breaks, schizoaffective disorder, psychosis, PTSD, OCD and personality disorders.

My work is influenced by experiential modalities such as Hakomi, Gestalt, Internal Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and AEDP, an integrative, attachment-focused orientation that is dynamic and relational in nature.
Do you want to experience life with less burdensome patterns getting in the way, meet challenges with less anxiety, and heal from limiting self-criticism and shame? I will help you meet all of the parts of yourself with reverence and compassion as we tend to the wounds that are ready for healing.

My training would be defined as "Cognitive Behavioral Therapy" but I engage in general therapy. This means that I will work with my clients to meet them where they are and use tools, interventions and approaches that respect their person and strives to align with who they are. I am here for the client and make it a point to engage on a humanistic level. I am not a therapist who sits in a chair and asks "how does that make you feel?" I am a therapist who wants to actively help you identify your goal(s) and come up with a plan for you to reach them. I will not waste your time and I am invested as much as you are.

We all want to feel better from time to time. We get stuck, sad, scared, alone. And right now during these uncertain times, many of us are struggling. Well, there is good news! The field of psychology, through research in neuroscience, has uncovered new powerful and effective ways that really work to build our resilience, improve our lives and relationships, and help us feel more connected and alive. I want to help you experience all of that. You just need to reach out, which is hard. I promise you though, if you take that step, you will feel better.

Because everything we do happens here and now, whether it is reflecting on the past, anticipating the future, or simply engaging in the present, how we organize our moments greatly determines how happy we are. Gestalt Therapy is based on this premise. I help my clients develop a stronger sense of themselves and their surroundings, and most importantly, how they get in the way of life's natural rhythm and flow. They invariably grow a deeper acceptance of who they are and thereby become freer to express their authentic selves in accordance with the requirements of the moment.

I am in awe of the power of the human spirit. I am inspired by the courage and strength it takes for a person to come to a place where they feel they no longer can be alone in a personal crisis and they reach out for support. It is in these very moments where grace is in motion and the potential for transformation is most fertile. I am passionate about working with others and feel honored in being part of someone's journey of self-discovery as they uncover the root and causes of their lack of connection with others, depression, anxiety, and grief.

Relational Therapists
How does relational therapy work?
Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.
Is relational therapy evidence-based?
Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.
How long are people typically in relational therapy?
Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.
Does relational therapy work?
While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
