I find it a privilege to work with individuals during periods of growth, transition, or challenge in their lives, and have been in private practice for 20 years. I work primarily with the diagnoses of depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating issues, adjustment disorders, and relationship difficulties. My approach to psychotherapy is primarily psychodynamic and depth-oriented. I also have a strong interest in contemporary and relational psychoanalysis. I believe in the therapeutic process for symptom relief, for personal insight, for experiencing new ways of being, and for the deepening of human relationships.

With my extensive trauma training & personal history, I most often work with eating disorders, relational issues involving codependency/addiction, and trauma.
Pretending everything is fine is exhausting. Coping with everything life throws at you, juggling different roles, and trying to be all things to all people. You feel guilty and inadequate and worry that someday all those plates you're spinning will come crashing down. Maybe you're an amazing "somebody" who often feels like an invisible and overwhelmed "nobody." Or maybe if they see you, they will know that you're not enough. Your body is not enough. Your relationship is not enough. You're incapable of fixing everything yourself. You feel lost and alone, living in silent despair.

In life, we often encounter challenges and painful experiences. With these challenges, you might have found yourself in a place of feeling stuck. Your familiar relational and emotional patterns of coping might not be as helpful as they previously were. Relationships might have become more difficult rather than life giving. As your therapist, my goal is to come alongside of you during this hard time in your life and guide you toward a place of peace and balance.

I believe that we can get stuck in the mire of hopelessness when we feel overwhelmed, or when our circumstances are more than we can handle. If you struggle with navigating your emotions, finding meaning/purpose, overcoming difficult or painful circumstances of the past (flashbacks, avoidance, fear, triggers) or even the present (arguments, emotional angst, numbness, irritation, anxiety, worry, hypervigilance), I want to support you. I specialize in anxiety; depression; eating disorders; relational issues; sex therapy and education, as well as helping folks work through general/sexual trauma using somatic or body-centered methods.

I experience each individual in a relational setting, focusing on what your concerns are, and we approach your goals together.
Things in your life feel off, emotions overwhelm you daily, your relationships suffer, and nothing feels like it can change for the better. Taking action to get help feels hard but you know something needs to change. Therapy is an evidence-based approach that will get to the root of what's going on and allow for meaningful change.

My clinical work has focused on a broad spectrum of issues, ranging from relational and sexual issues to anxiety, depression, trauma, identity crises, and bicultural challenges.
Emotional pain can often be debilitating; however because it is not as tangible as physical pain it is often suppressed or dismissed. Whether it presents itself in the form of anxiety, depression, grief, or relationship issues, emotional pain may be managed by applying the proper means of treatment. Understanding and identifying the patterns of the experienced symptoms can serve as the first step to emotional relief. In doing so, I use top-down techniques as: Jungian analysis and dream interpretation as well as bottom-up techniques such as: EMDR, brain spotting, and somatic experiencing.

Many of us have lived through painful experiences, early relational ruptures and trauma that can keep us feeling stuck and in pain.
Everyone deserves a place to feel seen, heard and fully known; a place to explore the parts of yourself that need care and extra attention. As a therapist, it is an incredible honor to be able to sit with you as you begin the hard work of allowing all the parts of yourself…the parts that have been tucked away, the light and dark, to take up space and experience lasting healing. I approach therapy through a wholistic lens that gives attention to mind, body, and spirit.

I work with individuals and couples to deepen their connection to themselves and others. Relational distress, depression, anxiety, and trauma are some of the issues that can get in the way of feeling connected to oneself and others. No one should have to go through these experiences alone. Together, I will walk alongside you and explore how to lessen their effects while healing the bond you have with yourself and your closest ones. My priority is a strong therapeutic relationship based on safety and empathy. My hope is that the individuals I work with feel seen, heard, valued, and supported.

Relational Therapists
How does relational therapy work?
Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.
Is relational therapy evidence-based?
Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.
How long are people typically in relational therapy?
Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.
Does relational therapy work?
While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
