My clinical perspective is based in client-centered therapy, humanistic, CBT, relational psychotherapy, somatic awareness, motivational interviewing, trauma focused, and narrative therapies.
Hi all, let's talk about who you are, what you've experienced, and what you want to get to know about yourself. I believe that each person is fundamentally good and healthy and therapy can provide a space for clients to step more fully into who they are. I work with individuals ready to show up each session ready to engage, specializing in but not limited to, anxiety, support for healthcare workers, career counseling and religious deconstruction.

My orientation to psychotherapy embraces Jungian and depth psychology approaches, but I also utilize CBT, mindfulness, somatic, and relational therapies.
I am currently taking new clients on a limited basis. I work with teens and adult individuals. I specialize in trauma, which underlies many psycho-emotional problems such as anxiety and depression. However, I am chiefly interested in working with people experiencing important life transitions and challenges, especially when they feel stuck, confused, or lost. I am available for a short, no-cost phone interview to answer your questions about my practice.

I work from a relational psychodynamic lens, which means I use the therapeutic relationship to help develop greater self-awareness.
Therapy is about learning how to tell our stories. It is deepening our courage to look ourselves in the face and tell the truth of what we find. It is taking in the bountiful love in the world though it sometimes seems impossible to find. It is learning to savor the taste of a good meal and laughter with others. It is knowing the name of our sadness whether or not we can find our tears. It is being. Just as we are with hope for more to come.

If you're feeling the pressure of challenging times, you're not alone. Many are struggling to manage the symptoms associated with chronic stress and chronic loneliness alongside anxiety and depression rooted in an unpredictable future. Perhaps you find it difficult to connect with others or have the relationships you want, or struggle to feel worthy of love. Understanding what contributes to your suffering and what you can do about it can lead to better awareness and gives us opportunities to break the cycles that keep us from our goals, who we want to be, and where we want to go in life.

I believe that all of us have the ability to be great, but there are challenges that get in the way. My passion is to help you realize who you are and what you can accomplish despite those challenges. I want to motivate and help you to do the work you need to be a better person, spouse, partner, parent, or friend. I know that we all have things going on, my goal is to be there for you through it, good or bad. Building you up or being there through a tough time that's what therapy is for.

The gift of meeting ourselves… in life, we sometimes have to endure extreme stress in difficult circumstances, and we are meant to continue to grow by making meaning and increasing the love in our lives. My focus areas include trauma and PTSD, emotional imbalances, self-esteem, grief, and transitions. I draw from my spiritual path as well as personal experiences to connect deeply, and to honor each individual’s journey to healing.

I work with individuals, couples, and families to address issues ranging from relational conflict to the broad spectrum of mental health. Through an eclectic approach utilizing cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, and family systems-based modalities, I explore current problems within the social, cultural, and environmental context of life experiences and the impact these experiences have on both physical and mental health. I often approach the presenting issue as a symptom and endeavor to assist clients in developing an understanding of the function that problem serves and how to achieve that same function with more desired outcomes.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
