Psychotherapy is a window for self-discovery. For me, this process centers around the therapeutic relationship. In collaboration, I can help you better understand historical patterns, with yourself and others, while creating a contained, consistent, and reparative relational experience. Through this exploration, we look beyond what exists on the surface to understand and address the root causes of challenging thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. This is how we can live our most authentic lives.

My approach to therapy is primarily rooted in the modalities of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Relational Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
I believe that the power of therapy lies in the process – in uncovering histories, identifying patterns, and finding new perspectives. I help people struggling with depression, anxiety, and life transitions by increasing insight into those struggles and learning to embrace emotions rather than avoiding or suppressing them. My hope as your therapist is that you'll leave with a strong sense of self and healing, with direction on how to be the person you want to be moving forward.

My approach is relational in nature, mindfulness-based and trauma-informed.
These are especially challenging times we are living through and many can feel overwhelmed, stuck or have a sense that something is missing in their lives. You may feel disconnected and resorting to unhealthy ways of coping such as addictive behaviors or substances. You may be experiencing conflict and confusion in your relationships. Now is the time to address that sense of lack, uncertainty and anxious feeling. I am here to support you in this journey towards becoming that version of yourself that you know is within you.

Specializing in Teens & Young Adults: However isolated they appear, I hold a strong belief that young adult emotional and behavioral struggles are primarily a reaction to family influences. To fully support this population in reaching their potential, their challenges will need to be looked upon in the context of family, so to identify how such strife continues to be reinforced. This systemic approach to therapy paves the way for greatest insight to be gained by those who really matter, allowing for symptom reduction and ultimately greater relational harmony.

My work with clients consists of a blend of Gestalt, Voice Dialogue, Internal Family Systems, Attachment-Focused therapy, mindfulness-awareness, insight-driven and experiential therapy, relational/interpersonal therapy, emotionally-focused therapy, psychodynamic techniques, body-centered therapy, psychedelic, and a blend of other common modalities-CBT, etc.
You have a calling to know yourself more completely, to make lasting changes in habitual pattens, to engage in the deep healing of unconscious unfinished business, and to integrate awakened insights fully into the body, into relationships, and into your life in the world. We get to know each other to build trust, identify areas for exploration, and then we dive. The therapeutic experience involves transformational epiphanies and the processing of hidden and stuck emotions. I gently challenge my clients to lean into uncomfortable places and build the tolerance for psycho-spiritual unfolding. See my website for more information.

My approach to therapy is eclectic and relational, combining various models (including person-centered, psychodynamic, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness and CBT) to serve your individual therapeutic needs.
You really want to enjoy life but everything seems daunting. You feel stuck, overwhelmed and confused. Life can be challenging but you don't have to go through this alone. My first aim in therapy is to create a space where you feel safe and heard. Together we embark on a journey of greater insight to understand what is holding you back and to create possibilities for change. I see therapy as a collaborative process: I bring my skills and experience, and you bring your whole self, your strengths and vulnerabilities, your fears and desires. My goal is to help you live a full and meaningful life in a way that feels true to YOU.

Therapy is a way to process personal and relational problems/challenges.
Struggling through emotional difficulties can feel overwhelming. Friends and family may not have the tools to help you get your life back on track. Coming to therapy is a tremendous step to facilitate change. I provide an empathic and understanding environment to help clients work through their problems. I believe that a genuine and real connection between therapist and client is a key component of the therapeutic process. My belief is that in order to change oneself, a fuller understanding of oneself must occur. Working together, we can explore issues and meet your counseling needs.

I integrate relational and mindfulness-based psychotherapy approaches with nutritional counseling.
Breaking through the barriers. What keeps you from true happiness and living the life you truly love? Perhaps you are in an unfulfilling intimate relationship that is not meeting your needs, or you desire a long-term meaningful partnership but keep finding that area to be a struggle. Are friendships and community challenging? Is your relationship with your family or particular family members in conflict? Often it is a need to learn to cope with difficult emotions such as anxiety and fears, negative thinking or challenging relationships that keep you from experiencing a life of joy and happiness.

In addition to psychotherapy, I offer clinical consultation in relational psychoanalytic and eating disorders treatment.
My experience is that many challenges we encounter are based on habits/patterns, which at one point may have felt helpful and necessary. Frequently, these ways of feeling and behaving are automatic, not within conscious awareness and not fully understood. My role is to facilitate curiosity of these repetitive cycles and work through the obstacles that interfere with leading the fullest life one desires. Part of therapy is co creating a narrative and ultimately becoming the author of one’s story. A trusting, collaborative therapeutic relationship is the foundation to begin this exploration. A dose of humor can help in the process.

I am trained in Family Based Treatment (FBT), Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RO-DBT), the Neuroaffective Relational Model (NARM) for developmental trauma, and am certified in Psychedelic Assisted Therapies from Naropa University.
You’re tired of feeling like thoughts about food and your body dictate how you spend your day. It feels like you cannot escape the voice in your head that tells you that you are not thin enough, you ate too much, and the most important thing about you is the way you look. The truth is... your body is not the problem. It never was. Our culture is structured to make us fit inside narrow constructs that oppress who we are. We will work toward body liberation. Body liberation is the freedom from social and political systems of oppression that designate certain bodies as more worthy, healthy, and desirable than others.

As such, the relational systems around each person impacts them, positively or negatively and therefore must be examined and addressed during the therapeutic process.
I am, first and foremost, a highly trained Christian Therapist. For over thirty years I have worked with couples, individuals, and families helping put an anchor back into their lives. As a Marriage and Family Therapist who is licensed in both Colorado and California, I have two Masters degrees: a Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Masters of Divinity (a three-year ministerial academic training) both earned from Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, California that has been coined “The Princeton of the West”. I use a "systems" approach to marriage and family therapy which means I view each person as part of a whole.

Adolescence and early adulthood holds a special place in my heart, because it is such ripe ground for discovery, yet many young people get stuck along the journey. I have worked with young people for over 10 years, who have struggled with social-anxiety and shyness, addiction, anxiety and panic attacks, depression, grief and loss issues, trauma, school issues, and complex family issues. While all of these can be horrific for the individual and families involved, the underlying resiliency present in each of these young people and families is the foundation that we build from in the healing process.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
